Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 3s
I said on Around the League: #Chiefs GM John Dorsey called Florida DT Sharrif Floyd yesterday to check on him. Hmmm. At 1 or for trade back?

You could maybe convince me that a guy like Barron with the ability to blow someone up and run stride for stride with most WRs is as important as an elite CB.

If that were the case, guys like Revis would be at FS. Flowers likely would be as well.

There is no chance at all you will convince me that a FS that is generally decent in run-support but not special is more critical than a CB. And ultimately, you're not going to have much success convincing me that SS is a more important position than CB, but there may be more versatile, dynamic players playing it. But again, even that is a reach to me.
With the continual emphasis towards passing in the NFL, the middle of the field has become the most important area to defend. Corners help out an order of magnitude less in run support, and given that they are on the periphery of the field, they play far less of a role in policing the short and intermediate routes inside the hashes than safeties do. Furthermore, they can't be disguised in blitz packages as well as safeties can.

Besides, Revis is the exception, like JJ Watt, not the rule.

Perhaps, instead of ranting about dogmatism you should step back and consider that someone else's opinion may have a degree of nuance to it.

For example: Safety>corner could mean that safety is the most important position on the field. Or maybe it just means that it's slightly more important than corner, and in this specific case I like Vacarro as a prospect a lot more than Milliner.

If it were 2004, I'd agree with you, but corners can't play defense anymore. Much like left tackle has been devalued, so has corner, but for different reasons.

It's also worth considering from this perspective: of the final four teams in the playoffs this year, all had better safety play than corner play. It could be anomalous, but maybe it's also suggestive of a broader trend.

You're wrong again dbag. Our 3rd choice is Dion Jordan if we have to keep Albert.

Well that would be a shity way to get your hopes up getting a call just days before the draft from the team with the #1 pick only to ask for birth date. Then find out later they pick some one else.
