Per pft...
Chiefs lay foundation to trade top pick Posted by Mike Florio on March 27, 2013, 7:28 AM EDT AP With buzz increasing regarding quarterback Geno Smith, including the teams picking second (Jaguars), third (Raiders), and fourth (Eagles) linked to the former West Virginia quarterback, the Chiefs’ best play becomes obvious. Get one of them to trade up to No. 1 to get Smith. But how can that happen, especially after G.M. John Dorsey publicly said that none of the rookie quarterbacks in this draft merits a first-round grade — and after the Chiefs backed that up by trading a high second-round pick and a 2014 third-round selection (that can become a second-rounder) for Alex Smith? It’s simple. Ignore all of that and start putting out the word now that maybe the Chiefs will pick Smith. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Chiefs scouts are “fascinated” by Geno Smith, and they’re comparing him to a young Donovan McNabb. If that’s true, then the Chiefs blew it by trading for Alex Smith. The more likely reality is that the Chiefs are now puffing, in the hopes of getting someone to make a Redskins-style move by a few spots to get the guy the Chiefs already decided they don’t want long — but currently are pretending that they do. And after USC quarterback Matt Barkley completes 90-plus percent of his throws later today against a phantom defense, maybe we’ll eventually start hearing how the Chiefs are “fascinated” with him, too.

What a dumb move by Dorsey in saying earlier that there's no QB worthy of the top pick. Now nobody is going to believe this visit has any merit. Shout out to Baby Jack.

Last years success of rookie QBs will pay dividends when we receive a haul for the #1 spot for Geno Cheesesteaks.

Hopefully either Geno impresses enough for us to take him or he pulls up to One Arrowhead Drive flipping off Dorsey/Reid then speeds off to go eat some BBQ. Trading for Alex Smith over drafting Geno is an insult.

Ian Rapoport:
Word from #Chiefs scouts: They're fascinated by Geno Smith, comparing him to a young McNabb. They love how he throws. Need to study deeper https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/316871220463271939

Sad to see hopes rise again for some to see it only come crashing down in the end. This Geno roller coaster is not going to be a pleasant ride in the end... going through the smoke now before you reach the wreckage.

These are all the NFL.com mocks from the past month. Most have Geno going to The Bills at #8 or Cards at #7.

It was dumb. But if they really don't want the 1.1 pick, can they just draft Smith and then trade him like what happened with Eli Manning? So basically call everyone's bluff and then trade him to whomever for their first and second/third.
