The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

My bad you were working overtime at the dildo factory.
If he was able to get out of pressure and throw, he wouldn't be getting sacked all the time.

Nick Foles is not a mobile QB. You need to surrender that horrible attempt at a point and move on like a big boy.

wrong about the first part.... no, there was no option, although he did run some his soph year under previous coaching staff. But as far as scrambling, he does scramble out to the edges quite a bit. It might be just picking up a yard or two, but he has no issues rolling right or left, and he doesnt take off running a lot, but when he does he can be very effective. Zero experience behind him at backup so he was told to limit his running. If you have really watched all his games, you would know that he wont take off running nearly as much as say a Russell Wilson, but you would say he runs a heck of a lot more than say a Tom Brady or a Matt Ryan. He also dealt with a foot fracture early in his career.

Saying he is more mobile than Tom Brady or Matt Ryan, doesn't make him a "mobile QB". A "Mobile QB" is an actual phrase use to describe players. We are not just talking about a person who happens to play QB and is capable of moving.

So you watched the WVU/James Madison and the WVU/Norfolk State games the past 2 years from somewhere in the middle of Iowa when there were probably some other really good matchups on TV at the time?

I was thinking this last night actually. It's great to be back to the old CP. It will be epic if we ever get into a position where we are consistently winning games.

-73 is getting sacked about 9 times a year.

Hmm Michael Vick gets sacked more than that. So your gonna say Mike Vick is a pocket passser.

The latest example comes via the Boston Globe, which recently reviewed 50 charitable foundations run by professional athletes and found that nearly half failed to adequately fund its mission.

As the article notes, non-profit specialists say a charitable foundation should funnel a minimum of 65 to 75 percent of proceeds to its cause. The Globe found foundations run by Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett and Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin, among others, have fallen well short of that standard.

The Alex Smith Foundation, meanwhile, was held up as a non-profit model. Smith’s foundation, which sends foster teens to college, spent 91 percent of its funds on its mission from 2008-10, the time period from which the Globe examined IRS filings.

The reason the foundation has low overhead costs is because Smith personally funds much of the mission. Since it began during his rookie season in 2005, the foundation has allowed about 30 foster teens to attend San Diego State, paying for up to five years of tuition, year-round housing, books, career guidance, mentors, health services and living expenses. Smith is a San Diego native.

In all, 23 foster teens have graduated from SDSU, through the school’s Alex Smith Guardian Scholar Program. I spoke today to Smith’s mom, Pam, who is actively involved with the foundation and said each graduate is now either attending graduate school or is employed. She said an effort has been made to have small fund-raisers, underwritten by Smith, which has kept costs down. Pam Smith and Alex’s sister, Abbey, have served as unpaid executive directors.

“Alex is a quiet kind of guy and, in a lot of ways, his foundation has operated that way,” Pam Smith said. “There’s been a few stories, but I don’t think people really realize the impact it’s had. On top of it, I’m very proud that we probably have one of the lowest administrative overheads of not just athletes’ foundations, but non-profits in general. It’s just unheard of to have to 90 percent (of funds going directly to a foundation). It’s a real success story.”

Not that this has anything to do w/ football, but just displays his character.

I think you're right on with this, and heard NFLN say it as well. Even 5-7 read-options a game can help a lot. It keeps the threat of running there so that someone needs to keep an eye out for it. Just one more thing the defense has to account for and think about. He's not going to be RG III out there but he doesn't have to be to still have some effect on the game.

Matt Cassel saved someone from a burning building. Rescued someone from a fire.

Matt Cassell was a nice guy too and looked how that turned out.

There both good charcter guys I respect them a whole lot. But when it comes to football they are not good players.
