50/50, what do you think of Geno Smith?
(Please tell me you hate him so I don't have to second-guess myself) |

He's worth a look, but keep in mind that he's still reaping a lot of the benefits of Harbaugh's coaching and recruiting. He's not the first or last coach to be successful for a few years after an outstanding head coach leaves town. I'd consider it but would be very cautious.

He needs to be in the discussion.
Why is Shaw, 2 years removed from Harbaugh reaping the benefits of his coaching? Recruiting? Fine, but in the NFL, dollars recruit. He's had NFL experience around some pretty good HC's. I take that as a positive that he coached under Harbaughs, and Gruden. He's maintained the same toughness (I think they are actually a more physical team now). I'd take him in a second.

David Shaw:
Played under Bill Walsh at Stanford NFL QB Coach NFL WR Coach Coached under Harbaugh/Gruden/Billick (as TBG said) 20-4 as a head coach Helped develop/coach Andrew Luck And for the purposes of the "true fan" old-timers who think everyone has to have a connection to KC, his dad was a coach for the Chiefs. |

I think he would deserve a look. They actually went into Notre Dame's house and beat them too. Doesn't show up in their win column... or Notre Dame's loss column, but everyone knows who won that game outside of a couple of people.
Dude deserves to be on the short list. |

I still lean towards Chip Kelly.
But Shaw would be strong, IMO. |
