TAMPA, Fla. | The Chiefs did not offer general manager Scott Pioli a contract extension, a source close to the situation said, contradicting a report on CBS prior to Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.

After the game, Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt would not answer questions about Pioli’s contract.

“We don’t discuss people’s contracts publicly,” Hunt said.

The source was emphatic that the Chiefs have had no discussions with Pioli regarding a contract extension. The Chiefs fell to 1-5 by losing 38-10 to the Bucs.

They have not led during a game this season, the deepest any NFL team has gone into a season without having a lead since 1983. The Chiefs have been behind by at least 18 points in all but one of their games this season.

In the bigger picture, the Chiefs are 22-32 in the regular season since hiring Pioli in 2009. They did win the AFC West with a 10-6 record in 2010 but lost their playoff game to Baltimore.

So the last time anyone was this bad was 1983, the same year as the last time the Chiefs took a 1st round QB.

Pioli was out there early and I wanted to remain on the field for another hour to watch the players and talk to Clark.

The stadium was pretty damn empty. I was really surprised/impressed at how many Chiefs fans showed up.

Dear Clark Hunt,

The next time you talk to your GM tell him that an arrowhead pin on the lapel would be an appropriate sign that you're at the very least trying to identify yourself with the organization you are being paid handsomely to screw up. Or you could just compliment him on his purple tie and shit can him on the spot.
