C'mon...Lance Jones is a really good quarterback.
I heard this same stuff about Bradford, and I'd give my eye teeth to have him quarterbacking the Chiefs right about now. Jones owns about every OU passing record, has a Conference title and three bowl wins, including a BCS. He's prototype size, damn near perfect delivery and has a very good feel for the game. From everything I read, he's a pretty solid character as well. By the end of the season and heading into the draft, I think that the Chiefs will have a choice between Jones and Smith when they pick. Both guys will be playing against a Big 12 schedule and seeing similar opponents, including a head to head battle on November 17. I'd be happy with either guy. |

No. Firstly, Bradford was an excellent draft prospect. He had/has much better pocket presence, looked down field more often, and went through his progressions.
Jones also was horrible w/out Broyles. He failed to throw a TD pass in his last three games, which were against OSU, ISU, and Baylor while throwing a total of 5 picks, at least 1 in each game. Two issues primarily with Jones, he's not clutch and he never elevated the level of those around him minus Broyles. Once he went down, their offense went to hell. If you still feel that you think Jones is a better prospect than Wilson, Murray, Bray, Smith, Thomas, or even Glennon, then IDK what to say. Personally, I think Jones is Cassel 2.0. Better arm strength, throws more downfield than Matt, but still has identical struggles, reads 1 side of the field usually, throws at his 1st read more often than not, and fails to deliver in the clutch. |

Additionally, the FSU tape is the best you're going to find on Jones last year or this year IMO. Now, compare that with the film of the best games the other QBs I mentioned. It isn't even close

Thomas is an athletic giant who may or may not translate to the NFL. He hasn't shown the killer instinct of Tebow or Newton, two players who he roughly translates to. Wilson I like. He won't be there when the Chiefs pick. Mike Glennon I like as well. He's got a lot of potential in terms of his size and athleticism and arm strength. So does E.J. Manuel. Not as polished as Glennon, but a lot of the same tools. Geno Smith is a complete stud and has already put together an impressive resume. He's off to a stellar start in 2012 and he looks like he's going to pull a RGIII and leapfrog a lot of prospects this next year. Aaron Murray isn't a NFL starter. He's not Russel Wilson. He hasn't put up the completion numbers to justify a high round draft pick this next season and most likely won't come out because of the talent at the QB position that should be available in the 2013 draft. Jones has ideal size, arm strength and athleticism for the next level. The progression issue has more to do with how Oklahoma runs their offense versus Jones' ability to see the field, and I haven't seen anything that shows he has issues with going through his progressions versus the quick read offense that Stoops runs. He's infinitely more experienced at the same level as Cassel. I don't see a Cassel. I see a better version of Mark Sanchez or a bigger version of Matt Ryan. He's a solid player who fits the Daboll system and the players we currently have. He's a serious upgrade to Cassel. You may not like him for whatever reason, but the numbers and wins and bowl victories say otherwise. |

Jones missed out on a lot of TDs because after he drove the ball down the field inside the 10 the Sooners would take him out and run the ball with Blake Bell. Bell had 7 rushing TDs in those last 3 games.

At least you've moved on from pimping LT's over and over and over for us. Have you seen Bray play? Inaccurate? Did you watch him Friday night? |

Sac, some of your points I agree with, some not so much.
Bray: has good size, arm strength, and has definitely improved in his accuracy/decision making especially towards the end of the year IMO. I think this is the year he takes a large step forward. Keep in mind he was a soph last year playing with a bad Tennessee team and looked good in his first game. In all likelihood, he's the 1st QB picked in the 2014 draft. Thomas: Agreed. Definitely better than Tebow and definitely worse than Cam. This year will tell us a lot. Wilson is awesome. Definitely won't be there when we pick, unless we end up with the 2nd pick IMO. Glennon: Glad to see we're on board with that. Haven't watched much tape, but will provide a better evaluation once the season progresses. Manuel: Wasn't impressed too much with last year. Again, haven't watched much, but I believe he was injured the majority of the year and that hurt his performances. I did like the true frosh they had last year filling in though. Needs to hit the weight room for sure. Smith: Agreed completely. Has a great chance to leapfrog Wilson, but I doubt he does if Wilson can put solid performances against Alabama and other top D's (LSU, GA/South Carolina) Murray: This is where I disagree big time. If you watch his tape from Michigan State last year, you'll see some NFL throws, solid work through his progressions, good pocket awareness, and a nice deep ball. I'm cherry picking here with one game, but I think he's definitely NFL starter material. WOn't come out until 2014 though, so it is moot IMO. Jones: Again we disagree. I'm not going to put all of the blame on him bc of the Offense at OU, but to me, he really seems like a newer version of Cassel. He is upgraded Cassel in all areas but isn't as good as Smith, Wilson, Bray, Glennon, or Murray IMO. He doesn't respond well under pressure (both from a pass rushing standpoint or big games IMO). Typically reads 1 side of the field but that is a product of the college spread/ lack of coverage talent in the Big 12, and OU's offense. Hard to say how much is on him. I understand that Bell took TDs away from him, but if he is a solid QB, then they aren't taking him out in goal situations. Nobody took WIlson out and he is a pure pocket passer like Jones. I don't see a better Sanchez, as their offensive systems, nomenclature were completely different. Same with the Matt Ryan comparison. Definitely has more experience than Sanchez. Look, if Landry comes out and has a great year, can show an improved pocket presence and proves he's worthy of a 1st round pick, I'll completely endorse him. From what I have seen the last 3 years, he hasn't appeared like a 1st round pick. His stats might be there (minus his YPA) but from my eye test, no. Again, that is my own opinion and can definitely change as this season progresses. In fact, I hope it does. If this draft ends up having 7 qbs that are 1st round talent, then all the better. I look forward to seeing if Landry Jones can prove me wrong and hope he does, not only for our benefit, but his as well. |

This one I could live with. Hell, we take a QB high (especially this guy) we could draft punters with each of our next 6 picks and I wouldn't give a shit and call the draft an A+.

Add to it that Geno Smith has pedigree. Guy was an Army HS All-American. It's not like he's a flash in the pan. Guy has game.
