Huh, they must have paved and installed guard rails to most of the upper section since I was there. When I went, once it went to dirt, it didn't go back to pavement.
That doesn't make the guys who do this any less crazy though. |

I drove up the peak back in early April. Its a nice ride with some incredible views, but also some downright scary views.
I'm not deathly afraid of heights, but you can't help but freak out a little. Its gets pretty nerve racking once you're above the tree line. There is no way I could drive a race car like that up the peak. I'd be afraid of losing control and falling thousands of feet to my death. |

Hell I think its pretty crazy to be sitting / standing that close to the road as these guys go flying by. You see the same thing in off road racing too. In fact there was a group wiped out here in So Cal a couple years ago, I think only one died.

Thats what I kept thinking. A few turns he cut pretty damn close to some people. Its not like he didn't wobble on a few of the turns. The turn where some fans are standing behind the guardrail is pretty crazy as well, considering the rail is about 2 feet from the edge.

Yeah, it wasn't his speed that was getting to me, it was how close those people were to the road.

F*** that. I wouldn't drive up that conspicuously-guardrail-free deathtrap at regular speeds.
I also wouldn't be standing gawking on the outside edge of a sharp corner while some other clown rocketed past, either. |
