Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

Crazy, Stupid Love is a pretty good flick. Definitely worth a date night movie.

I caught the last half hour of Centurion, starring Michael Fassenebnder. Going to have to catrch it from the beginning.

Saw 'Drive' the other day. Nicolas winding refn is a stud. Cool movie. Tons of it was shot right behind my house too.

I watched it the other day as well. Honestly don't know what to think of it.

There wasn't much of anything you hadn't seen somewhere before already.
But then, a lot of it was nice to see woven back together in a new patchwork of storytelling.
Hated the matchup of driving sequences to realism. I swear there was a point in the opening sequence where he upshifted 8 times and was doing all of 30 mph.
Not sure what I think of the extended stare-offs. I get that it makes Gosling this fascinating cipher and Mulligan the inquisitive and fascinated outsider. But it was like half the movie. But again, I don't know about Gosling, but I could do worse than spend an afternoon looking into Mulligan's eyes.

It's like a Tarantino knock-off wanted to make a silent [with orchestra score] homage to Miami Vice.

That's a great book, by the way. The book is a pretty academic ethnobotanical investigation of the zombie phenomenon in Haiti.

Went to see Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close this weekend. Hanks and Bullock definitely played supporting roles to the kid, who was absolutely amazing. No bawling in this one like I thought I might, but there were a few tears trickling down my face at times.

Haywire was good. The best thing about it was that it didn't try and EXCITEMENT everything up by using quick cuts and bizarre camera angles - when Gina Carano had a fight scene, the director was smart enough to just turn the cameras on her and watch her kick lots of ass.

The plot was overly convoluted, though, and it was hard to keep names straight and tell what was going on sometimes. It's also - and this isn't necessarily a bad thing - as much a suspense and intrigue movie as it was the action flick it's being marketed as.

But Gina Carano does kick some serious ass.
