I think he finds out that Batiatus actually killed his wife and that drives him to rebel. Crixus and his love get busted and therefore he teams up with spartacus to lead the rebelion.

Good thought. I bet that happens and Spartacus finds out about his wife around the same time and it all goes to shit.
