My gut right now says we sign Chris and trade LJ and sell it as doing him a favor and getting him max pay from someone else
Just like Dee Ford, but a better player |

This would be ideal. Just feels like we should get something if we're going to lose one of these guys, and not a 3rd round comp pick at best.

Unless they're throwing up smoke screens, pass catcher is like 5th on their list right now. They need Oline and DT, then CB.

I think the Lions would fall all over themselves to give us a 2 for Sneed. I think they're drafting at like 61 - they'd do that in a heartbeat, IMO. And they'd probably throw a 4 and maybe some capital next year in for good measure. They BADLY need a player exactly like Sneed on that roster. And his mindset/attitude fits perfectly with Campbell's approach. Shit, if there's a team in the league that would give up a 1st for Sneed it's Detroit. And frankly, they wouldn't be crazy to do so. Sneed will help them more over the next 2 or 3 seasons than that draft pick will. And the draft is deep at WR and OL where they're already fairly young and fairly strong. If the Lions would give us their 2 and Jameson Williams for Sneed, I'm pretty sure I'd have to do it.

Yeah the Lions don't have to pay any of their star players except St Brown soon.
The 29th pick probably isn't getting you a guy you need right now to get where you need to go. And quite honestly GB is gonna be a problem with Love and the weapons they have. Having Sneed cut off one of those guys is huge for that defense. It makes too much sense. The time is now and they should treat it as such

Ultimately I think they could probably get him moved for about a 3rd rounder based on little more than his pedigree. So if you use him as a proxy for a 3rd round value (and their 3rd isn't worth a ton) it comes down to Sneed for a 2nd and 3rd. That seems equitable. And Jameson is still damn fast - he essentially steps right into the MVS role and we could go drafting for the replacement that Skyy/Toney was supposed to be.

I believe it was like the 2013 NBA offseason (edit: 2016 offseason) where all the TV money hit at once and the cap went up something like 30% in a single offseason. Everyone had money and man did they spend it in the stupidest ways imagineable. Pretty much every team that signed a FA regretted it immediately. That's just what happens in a flush marketplace. Stupid money gets thrown around and the only way to win at that point is not to play. Well the Lions HAVE to get better. The NFC is too wide open and they came too far (and too fast) to just sit on their hands. They need to improve their defense and the smart way for them to do that is to avoid FA in the process. So you trade for Sneed and his tag charge, use that as leverage to put together a more reasonable extension and you're cooking with gas. Absolutely everything about a trade for Sneed makes sense from the Lions perspective. The only question will be how much you could extract from them in the process. It would likely be a pretty fair amount.

What about swinging the below trade with the Eagles?
Philly: #32 + Sneed KC: #22 + #53 We move up 10 spots in the first to get our BPA at OT or WR, and we get #53. KC picks: #22 #53 #64 EDIT: Shit, this would even position us to slide up further if there's a guy in the 12-16 range we covet.

Can you imagine what the draft forum would be like holding #22 for a few weeks BEFORE the draft?
