Veach told us already that he likes to look at guys on the last year of deals for potential trades.

I bet if they have a perceived hole after the draft he finds a way to fill it via trade.

It’s amazing that’s people want Veach to make a desperate attempt to fix the defense through free agency.

We tried to get Wilkerson on what would’ve been a solid deal, but he chose the Packers for the same deal. Nothing we can do about that.

Richardson, Poe, Star etc. were too expensive and not worth the risk for their own respective reasons.

We signed arguably the best free agent off the ball LB.

Johnson and Butler are too close to 30 to justify overpaying. At safety, we showed interest in Mathieu, but probably couldn’t make it work with a one year deal (which is what he was probably looking for considering his market). Veach at least secured Fuller when he knew Peters was gone and quickly got a guy that’s had success and we are familiar with in Amerson. Things could definitely be worse in the secondary.

There were no edge rushers this year in free agency, so anybody complaining about not upgrading there is a ****ing moron.

It’s easy as a fan to say “we should’ve gotten a _____”, but that’s not how this works. When you try to fix a defense through free agency and focus on needs instead of fits and players you actually really like (Veach tried trading for Watkins and Hitchens in TC) you end up with a Sean Smith, Bruce Irvin, and Reggie Nelson kind of offseason that sounds good on paper but doesn’t actually fix anything at all.

Eh, not really wrong

I’d say though that those three added in Oakland should have been way better but the coaching was awful

I think that’s their 1st draft pick. Lot of talent in rd 2 at that position and Bailey is a FA after this season. Plus it’s a deep corner class.

Makes too much sense IMO.

I want the Chiefs to do it because that's what the **** they said they'd do when they justified keeping Sutton around. Now the difference makers are gone, we might actually be a bit worse talent wise on the defense, and our first pick is #54.

They would’ve busted either way IMO. I thought so at the time and it had nothing to do with the coaching staff and everything to do with the players, the fit and/or their ages.

If this defense is going to get back to where it needs to be it has to be through these next two drafts. It’s always been that way.

Never mind I’m dumb

But seriously they can’t pay big money everywhere

They need to hit on some real legit defenders on th cheap. Like the Tyreek Hill of defensive ends or the 4th round corner that just balls out

What difference makers are you talking about outside of Peters?

And if you honestly think we’re going to be worse you’re to fixated on what our roster looks like today. It’s ****ing March and the first week of free agency. Relax.

Peters is the only guy we’ve lost that was good last year. Let’s be real.

Hitchens and Ragland now give us two badass dudes in the middle who will hit your ass. I think that tandem could do wonders for run defense and change the mindset of the whole unit. Fuller is better than the FA corners that were available, I believe. We are lucky to have him. Amerson could rebound here and play well now that he’s healthy. We need big contract years from Ford and Nelson. KPass needs to take a big step forward.

Now we see what else Veach can do to add on. There’s the draft, the next waves of FA, potential trades. I’ve got a ton of confidence in him doing all he can to fill those holes as well as possible in this one offseason. He can’t do it all, but he’ll try.
