It's easier to keep basketball programs in shitty areas alive b/c the players don't have to be there as long and you can devote far more resources per player.

Gary Pinkel is one big reason. Mizzou becoming a competent program took away Nebraska's closest geographical recruiting area.

Honestly, I think firing Callahan (when they did) was a mistake. They had solid recruits up to that point.
