The Chiefs have 2 IR / Designated to Return Slots which they can use on any 2 Chiefs that were placed on IR after final roster cut-down; however they have to remain on the IR for 8 weeks before being eligible to return.

Nelson was placed on Injured Reserve (IR) after final roster cut-down and must be on IR for 8 weeks before he is eligible to return.

They chose to use 1 of those slots for Nelson who can begin practicing and is eligible to play after week 8 since he was placed on IR prior to the first game.

I think that would be correct since the game is a Monday night, and he was placed on IR on Sunday. The 8 weeks would be up the day before the game. But does the 8 weeks rule mean 8 literal weeks, or could it mean that he has to miss 8 weeks of games. The latter is how I always interpreted it. But it would be nice if we could slip him in this week. Also, I have posted Tiechers piece from when he was placed on IR. He has been eligible to practice for 2 weeks. Surely there would have been something out there saying that he has been practicing with the team, right?
