Most of the fires in Montana are lightning strikes in fact.

And personally, Montana needs to do a better job of random and structured logging to thin forested areas so these burns are better able to be fought in the future and hopefully won't burn as quickly. It's called selective logging I think. Looks like this.

Eureka, I've decided your part of the world is my favorite for outdoor activities in all of CA.
One question though - are most people in Eureka morbidly obese, or did I just see a skewed sample size while I was there? Btw I'm pretty overweight, so not judging. Just curious. |

Northern California is crazy right now. Over 70,000 acres burned. 1,500+ buildings destroyed. 3 miles outside of the town that I work in and some of these fires are 0% contained. I have friends that are already evacuating their homes. Shit is ****ed.

Just had a customer in the store who was telling me his daughters house burnt down in Santa Rosa. Said she went to bed at 3 AM thinking no way the fire was getting to her neighborhood and then she woke up a few hours later to a mandatory evacuation. The fire was spreading at a rate of a football field every 3 seconds due to the wind. That sounds crazy! |

Well I mean we knew it was coming. This is the price of escaping from the drought in one epic snow season.

out door activity around humboldt county is awesome you just gotta dodge the homless camps and used needles layen around. from my understanding, about 5 years ago san fran gave free 1 way tickets to homless to our part of the state. eureka may be the worst city in cali.

My thoughts and prayers are with the folks with deceased or unaccounted for loved ones and for folks who've lost their homes and keepsakes. The air quality is very poor right now, with all the smoke and ashes in the air, to the point where even folks without respiratory conditions could be adversely impacted. I live in Davis and work in Sacramento. Davis is closer to the fires in Napa and Santa Rosa.
Californians are good people, though. Lots of brave, smart and hardworking folks out there looking after one another, including fire fighters, police, nurses, doctors, volunteers, and folks managing and staffing emergency shelters in schools, churches and other spaces. A worrisome thing about the location of the fires is that there are quite a few elderly in those parts of the state. |

Thing about California, though, is that the growing's so good out here, that all kind of fuel builds up, setting the stage for these fires.
Sunday caught me off-guard with how strong the wind gusts were. I somehow missed the forecasts or something, but those winds were crazy strong, which dries the vegetation and other fuel even further and then sends embers flying once fires do start, making them spread rapidly. |

Yeah this sucks.
I'm headed other there for the Chiefs/Raiders game. My brother is an idiot Raiders Season Tix Holder. Anyway whenever I visit I take a spin through Napa Valley and enjoy some great restaurants. That all went to shit. My brother has actually left his house, its not currently in danger but the smoke is just awful. |
