I remember the benefit concert that a bunch of musicians did after 9/11, and Petty played that "Won't Back Down" song. It was the perfect song for that time and place.

He was fantastic live. Saw him at sandstone, at Tampa Florida when I lived their and the crown jewel... Bonnaroo, a crowd of 100,000 people. Never disappointed.

This is a major bummer for me. I loved Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I only got to see them once live, but it was a helluva show.
