They're going to keep doubling down on their 'embrace debate' strategy and their lurch to the left in an attempt to appeal to millennials and remain culturally relevant in a landscape where they are less athletically relevant than they've ever been.

If you can't beat VICE, you may as well join 'em, I guess.

This isn't a surprise to any sports fan. People that are hardcore fans of any particular sport get almost all their information from the respective specialized network. College fans turn to their conference programming anymore. ESPN's old business model is dead and they needed to streamline.

They've chosen their horse - we'll see how far it takes them.

A friend of mine has a parent that's high up in network programming and will occasionally give us some pretty great behind the scenes stuff on media personalities.

Hannah Storm literally ****ed her way to the top. She's actually halfway decent now, but she evidently banged the entire chain of command to get there.

They're focusing on an age group with the attention span of a gnat. I understand that it's young viewers that attract advertising dollars so they had little choice but to go this route.

But they're going to be more and more of a niche network because that's where all media is headed. To me, they look like they're trying to push towards VICE sports. It'll be a slow transition, but from the outside looking in, that sure seems to be the market they're trying to appeal to. And frankly I think it's because they realize that they've simply lost the hardcore sports fan to the sport specific channels.

ESPN will never again be what we grew up on and once they finally start to get out from under some of these burdensome television rights deals that are killing their bottom line, I'll be you see them get even smaller. And in the void I think you'll see the PPV model become more popular for many sports and the regional networks will grab an even larger share of many events.

ESPN as we know it is dead but they are going to have a hard time transitioning because they're trying to turn the Titanic here. And they're going to have to do so while also swallowing their pride.
