Free Agents?

The offseason is the best time of year as a Chiefs fan. The time of year when we look to our sleeper draft picks and sneaky impact FAs that we're SURE will bring us over the top in the next season. This is the time of year that Chiefs fans have the most hope.

So I'm curious, what FAs will come available this offseason that CP'ers feel would be impactful in 2018 and fit in our budget?

There is no hope if we don't draft a QBotf so I don't give shits about FA that won't be here in two years but only cost cap money.

Clark Hunt himself proclaimed he want's to build the Chiefs through the draft but he forgets the one ingredient to make it a great pie and that's the quarterback.

Gerald Hodges - ILB, 49ers.

This guy is an absolutely perfect fit. He's a guy that can play for DJ while we see when/if DJ can come back and continue to be an every down player. Once DJ is back, he could effortlessly play alongside DJ and provide an improvement in both the run and pass game.

I expect he'll get signed to a reasonable deal and he is easily my top target in this years FA class as a guy that can out-earn what you'll pay him.

If we lose Poe and slide Howard inside to NT, I would be curious to see what kind of contract Chris Baker will demand. Maybe more than I'd want to spend for a position that Dorsey has been able to fill on the cheap, but he's a guy in the DeVito mold; good run-support player that can make some noise against the pass on occasion as well.

TJ Lang, Packers

He's a really solid guard for the Pack, and he's going to available for pennies on the dollar due to the shitty injury he suffered in the NFCCG.

Edit: And he has tackle flexibility.

Also, to capitalize on what DJ's left nut said, Chris Baker would wreak havoc in our defensive scheme.

A 29 year old guard coming off major surgery?

No thanks.

Robert Woods, WR, Bills - he is the #2 we need for this offense. He's a good version of Albert Wilson. Great route runner and great hands.

AJ Klein, LB, Panthers - put him in the wil MLB
spot and he'd be a stud in our defense

What does Woods do that Chris Conley can't?

Woods would be a waste of money and would stifle Conley's further development.

Yeah - unless you trade Conley outright, I see no purpose in burying him behind Woods.

The 'true #2 we need' is Tyreek Hill. Hill's a shockingly intuitive route runner so he'll only get better at it. His hands are above average. Hill is going to develop into a #1 in the coming years, IMO and he's already a legitimate strength as a #2. Conley's a solid #3 and developing into a nice possession receiver.

Now, if Conley has created enough value to be worthwhile in a trade-up scenario whereby we get the QB we need, I'd be on board with Woods as a replacement for him. But with Conley already here and proving that he's at least an NFL caliber player, I see no reason to give up on him and do so at the cost of cap space.
