Cold Brew Coffee.

Recently I was perusing the coffee snob thread and came across the cold brew coffee conversation. I decided to try some. It's fantastic!!!

I like coffee. But I can't handle anything hot in the summer. I talked about it with Silock when he was pounding the coffee on a cut diet and he said drinking hot coffee in the summer should help the body handle the heat, physiologically. Despite all that I can't do it. I just seem to be hot and miserable all day.

It takes a little planning to make happen but if you like coffee make it. You'll thank me later. It even makes Folgers taste good!

NewPhin and FMB need to get in here so I can rep them for motivating me to make it.

I'm not much of a coffee guy, but I'll occasionally pick up a cold brew to jazz up an average stout beer.

Yes. I am that weak minded. I really hate the heat. I don't know if I got too hot when I was younger or what, but if I work in the heat it takes me a long time to cool down. Coffee in the morning just makes it worse. I even need the house to be an icebox. If it gets much above 70 I get pissy.

I can do cold though.

Cold Brew Coffee.

Cold brew is fantastic. It's the only coffee I drink anymore. Converted the wife, too. Glad you liked it.

I work outside all day in the heat, but I still like to drink hot coffee when I'm out in it. I don't know if hot coffee helps me handle the heat or not, though. Just seems like I've gotten used to it over the years. I tried cold brew coffee once at Whole Foods, but I ended up taking it home and heating it up because creamer didn't seem to want to mix as well with it when it was cold.

By "cold brew" do you mean coffee that is served cold or is this some special type of way to brew coffee?

You actually brew it cold. Coarse ground beans soaked in cold water for a while. Then you press it or strain it. It tastes smoother and has more caffeine.

I think it actually has less caffeine. But smoother, definitely.

I use 1 gallon of water and 8 oz. of coarse coffee. Steeped for about 12 hours in the fridge.

"Alot of things depend on different stuff..." A wise drunk friend of mine once told me...

Mostly depends on volumes in the cold brew process I believe, but here is an interesting article on it:
