Feel free to discuss any future speculation, theories. Anything from the books is fair game to post. Everything that has been broadcast on TV or from HBO. No spoilers needed.

  1. If you watched or know the events that will take place in a unaired episode that has not been broadcast on HBO, you must put all the information and comments in a spoiler tag.
  2. Do not post any media of any kind involving actual content from unaired episodes without being in a spoiler. The only exception to the spoiler rule is content publicly posted from HBO and or the GOT actor themselves. Teasers, promos, trailers etc.

Any person unable to follow the spoiler rules will be banned from this thread. 14 days for first offense. Perm banned from the thread for a 2nd offense.

Asshai pretty weird and mysterious. Sounds like it's a magical place full of warlocks and witches. I'm not sure we'd ever get an answer to that.

Stupid. I'm the exact opposite. I'm thankful for the show creators who are actually going to be able to deliver on the storyline, which I don't think GRRM will. If it weren't for them, we'd be facing an incomplete story.

I also think they've done a great job of trimming the fat and moving things along, while GRRM has just gotten more plodding and purposeless as the books have progressed. He REALLY doesn't seem like he knows how to get to where he wants to go with the books.

I wonder that the Long Night is a much bigger/different deal than just the Others, and they basically just took advantage of it the first time around, and are looking to do the same this time.

Azor Ahai dealt with (or caused) the first Long Night, but didn't have anything to do with the Others. The new Azor Ahai will deal with (or cause) this new Long Night, which will have an enemy much more dire than the Others.

I thought Azor Ahai was the champion who dealt with the Others during the first Long Night. And I thought that the Others were synonymous with White Walkers?

The Arya storyline this season seemed like a "**** it. This doesn't make sense but we're going forward" sort of move.

The Last Hero sought out the Children and defeated the Others (yes, synonymous with White Walkers) during the Long Night.

Azor Ahai is a supposed good guy who "fought against the darkness". The legend is from Asshai, which has never seen an Other. Also, the legend of Azor Ahai has many similarities to other legends from other cultures that decidedly do not sound like good guys (The Bloodstone Emporer, Hyrkoon the Hero, Yin Tar, Neferion, and Eldric Shadowchaser).

Why do people watch it if they hate it so much. That's what I never understood.

Pretty unclear. Supposedly the Bloodstone Emperor caused the Long Night when he killed his sister, the Amethyst Empress, and stole her throne. It was certainly dark and cold, and lots of people died.

I've been enjoying the analysis of the music during the first 20m. It struck me too at the time. First time they used piano. The use of the music in this one was astounding to me. That first 20 is perfection IMO.
