Jaye Howard or Sean Smith

Which would you sign.

For the sake of argument, let's assume the following contracts (without getting into the details too much):

Sean Smith gets a 5 year, 52.5 million deal (10.5 per). First year cap hit is 6.6 m to fit cap constraints. Roughly on par with Byron Maxwell's deal (5th highest for a CB).

Jaye Howard gets a 4 year, 36 million deal (9.0 per). First year cap hit is 6.6 m to fit cap constraints. Roughly on par with Derek Wolfe's and Jurrell Casey's deals (6th and 7th highest for 3-4 DE).

How would you guys feel if the Chiefs let both Howard and Smith walk, and instead re-signed DeVito to something like 2 years, 5 million and another lesser tier free agent like Trumaine Johnson at 4 years, 26 million?

DeVito had a nice season. Was as effective as Howard was.

I wouldn't overpay for Howard in free agency. Nunez-Roches, Williams and a significantly cheaper DeVito are just fine.

We didn't miss him at all because we don't know what life is like when he does play.

We need to put Gaines in the Sanders Commings camp. Move on from him. If he decides he wants to stop being an injured vagina, then he can eat at the big kids table. We'll be glad for it. If not, then no loss on our part.

Howard has had ONE good year.

one year does not get an elite contract. If he wants $8+m a year then he can go **** himself

Can't help but agree that Howard played his heart out and got above average results at best. Move on from him. Dorsey don't be a moron and sign away money that we can use on a right tackle like Mike Remmers!!

Howard. He's a pretty big piece up front for us. Smith is a solid CB but he has too many weaknesses for me to want to pay top dollars to keep him (lacks quickness and ideal ball skills).

That being said though, I trust Dorsey's ability to find guys who can step in and at least play at a solid level.

2014 was pretty good as well.

He's not getting elite money. He's not getting Ndamukong Suh or JJ Watt money, for ****'s sake. He's getting a pretty decent contract to be a starter and get plugged into multiple spots along the defensive line.

Tamba Hali basically had one good year as a 3-4 OLB when Pioli gave him his contract. Same with Derrick Johnson. Same with Allen Bailey.

Howard was on his rookie contract. He needed time. He got time, and the last two years of his contract he played very good football and ended up developing into our most valuable DL.

Amen.

The one minor gripe I have with Dorsey is the penchant to draft a high ceiling, super athletic BROKEDICK.
Fisher almost turned into one.
Kelce missed a season.
DAT may be out of football.
Commings had a history.
Gaines had a history.

Lay off the brokedicks Dorsey!

I agree with this...If Dorsey keeps Smith/Howard..it's because he has his reasons. I personally think 6-3 press corners are harder to find...it's why KC has no quality depth at that particular position...but are stocked at safety/DL.

Word on the street is Oakland will pursue Smith...how much is it worth to keep him from a rival?
