Are you prepping for winter?

Just curious if anyone else has been and what is your routine?

So far on the house:
Caulked, painted the exterior gaps and leak parts of the house.
Unhooked hoses.
Changed furnace filter, cleaned humidifier and changed filter and switched settings.

Vehicle:
Changed oil, air filter and plugs, checked fluids.
Built my sand bag frame to keep the sand bags over the rear axels.

Still need to do:
Load sand bags in pickup.
Attach / retro fit snow plow to tractor.

There are certain jobs I don't trust to someone else.
That and when you hire someone else you never really know what you're letting into your house. Just ask Elizabeth Smart, the dude that kidnapped her was a day laborer her father hired to do some yard work.

I've been cutting wood quite a bit. I've got about 4 ricks stacked and split. I also had the gas company cut down a bunch of tress around a transfer station that's on our land. The cut and stacked the shit, barely had to cut any of it down to size, so I'm ahead for next year. They also gave me a whole truck load of wood chips/mulch. The blueberry bushes are happy campers.

I'm all set for the best and easiest time of year. Light jacket. Can turn AC off, stop using salt tablets to protect my body's cooling system etc.

I got my good friend to walk around my roof and clear the gutters, am waiting on a log splitter to get the big chunks of hedge into manageable pieces, got lots of red cabbage ready to make, inspected the fireplace, made sure my wool socks are not worn so that I need to order new ones, and I have some Christmas presents here ready to wrap, so yes, I am prepping well for the winter, I think. Price Chopper even had Progresso soups on sale, too.

Oh yes, I forgot. I did get my Oleander trimmed back severely for winter. So it will grow back lush and full by next spring/summer.

Three months out of the year —hell. Nine months—wonderful. ( Save for a brief spell of a cold bedroom. So I'll get the electric blanket)

I will never own a two wheel drive truck again. Even if it only snows every few years the extra cost of 4x4 is more than worth it.

Turned on the gas stoves (screw dealing with wood all winter) and put the snow tires on. I still need to block off the crawlspace vents though I am worried our new dog is going to try to chew them up. I should probably make sure the snow blower fires up.

We had such a warm October that I'm having trouble getting my brain in winter mode.

Usually done in late September or early October.
