Would Arrowhead's Toys in the Attic sell today?

Was bored when I got home and wanted to listen to some music. So I was perusing and saw Arrowsmith's Toys in the Attic amonst the multitudes of CD's. It's been a long time since I listened to this particular album. But I think it still holds up. Yeah it's Bronco week. **** off. Just wondering.Remember I was bored. And maybe feeling a little old.

This is untrue. Kids today aren't into rock music. They're into EDM or electronic tinged pop or modern Country. There aren't kids out there clamoring for a new Aerosmith or Metallica album because that's their parents music.

Every generation wants their own music. There's no way around it.

Everyone in the business listens to everything. I mean everything. But record labels now are pretty much nothing more than the place for superstar and classic acts. They aren't into developing and nurturing talent because it costs too much money and too much time.

The Music Supervisors are the true A&R people of today. They listen to hundreds of songs by unknown or up and coming artists every day and they are the people that decides what songs appear in films and TV shows.

Getting a track placed on a CW show is more powerful than getting a track placed on 120 radio stations airing 10 times a day.

My son is into the electronic music. He went to the Van Halen tour on Sunday. He got a free ticket but he really enjoyed the Eddie guitar solo.

FTR, I wrote an article for an entertainment magazine back in 1981 about this new electronic music and its fans.

I search for music I heard on a TV show or in a film all the time. Can't remember the last time I did that for something I heard on the radio.

Mike Patton predicted that computers and by extension electronic music were going to take over and become a huge part of music all the way back in 1992. He saw it as a good thing as there's more things you can do with the music and more ways to experiment and progress. I kind of agree with him.

This is a very confusing thread for people who don't know the album name. I thought there was some sort of memorabilia hidden in a room at the stadium or something.

Cool! I remember when Pete Townsend said that the guitar and rock were dead and everyone laughed.

Turns out he was a few decades early, which isn't surprising considering the genius of Pete Townsend.

Also, with the internet being what it is bands and artists are influenced by hundreds of different sources as compared to a handful in the pre-internet era. There's no "holy grail" of bands that push the next generation.

Days where bands blowing up like The Beatles, Stones, all the way to Guns N Roses in the early 90's are long gone.
I don't believe that to be true. Because there will always be someone to come along and blow people away. And it won't take much to do in these days. It will take good song writing and a hook in a song. And then a couple of good follow up songs. And then hope and prayer and good fortune to follow. I pray musicianship doesn't fall out of favor. It never should.

Now this is interesting. I'm saving The Who for last. All of the b-sides, all of the shit that was never played on radio, everything.

It's the last frontier of classic rock for me. I've stashed it away, and will start listening to it sometime in the very near future.

Kanye West is a great composer and producer with a lot of great songs.

He's not my favorite musician by a long shot, but he's definitely talented as ****. He's also nuts but so was Axl Rose.

These days, it's more like an Ed Sheeran type of artist and not a "band".

If people want to listen to great rock music, they can raid their parents CD's. There is no real reason for new rock bands the genre is tired and outdated.

The issue is that the best songwriters of today aren't writing music geared towards rock fans, because they're very few and far between. Composers are writing music that sells in today's market, not the market from 20 or 30 or 40 years ago.

Nobody cares.

Being able to play guitar proficiently is old hat, just like playing the violin or viola or piano, et al, was when rock and roll was invented. The best musicians in the world play in symphonies and while it's true that excellent guitarist, bassists and drummers are needed for the occasional film score or to perform live on American Idol or whatnot, the days of it being "exciting" or "amazing" are long gone.

And Dane with your takes, and I respect them. I still have to believe that they are wrong. I cannot believe that a kid or band with talent can be held back. They will push through. If a band(Rock) has the talent they will be heard.

Dude, I've lived and worked in this worked in the music business for the past 23 years. I deal with this stuff every, single day. I have friends that manage successful acts, friends that have Grammy's for signing and placing bands, music supervisors, etc. and so on. It's my life.

I'm sorry to break it to you but that's just not happening.

There are tons of bands with tons of talent that give up and go back to regular jobs every year. If they have bills piling up and they're tired of playing to rooms of 5-10 people, most often than not, they'll hang it up.

Music and society is just moving on into another era man. There might be a trend of music that's heavily influenced by rock of decades previous, but it won't be the same thing. And that's fine imo, music and art is supposed to progress and go different places, even if I'm not a fan of the places they go.
