ESPN pulls Curt Schilling from LLWS after offensive tweet

Are you offended?

ESPN has pulled baseball analyst Curt Schilling from its coverage of the Little League World Series after he sent an offensive tweet comparing Muslims and Nazi-era Germans, the network announced Tuesday.

Schilling tweeted an image of Adolf Hitler with supposed statistics comparing the number of Nazi sympathizers in Germany to the percentage of modern Muslim extremists and deleted it after a few minutes. He had posted the same image on his Facebook page earlier in the day.

In a statement, ESPN called the former MLB pitcher’s comments “completely unacceptable.” He has been removed from this week’s coverage of the Little League World Series “pending further consideration.”

Schilling has caused controversy on Twitter before. In November, he spent four hours debating the theory of evolution with Twitter users. When his ESPN colleague Keith Law confronted Schilling with the overwhelming scientific evidence in support of the theory, the network suspended Law from Twitter.

Schilling is outspoken about his political beliefs, telling a Boston radio station in November that he believed he was denied admission to the Hall of Fame because he is a Republican.

FWIW - here's my take:

This country is becoming so damned PC that it is starting to resemble the former Soviet Union where, one wrong word, and it was off to the Gulag.

We'd better get our act together or it won't be long......

No one has been arrested for making a non-PC tweet.

Fired? Sure.

Sentenced to hard labor? No.

Making a non-PC comment that radical Islam maybe isn't being dealt with head-on enough by mainstream media or governments is one thing.

Schilling's tweet a) was completely wrong on all facts and b) implied that somehow (I guess) Muslim extremists are going to create something on the order of Nazi Germany - while ordinary Muslims look on (I guess?). Although really no part of that analogy makes sense or is remotely possible.

And of course the whole thing is really offensive to everyday Muslims because he's basically lumping them in with extremists. Yes I get that most readers of CP, who don't happen to be Muslim, are not personally offended.

I am an old man. I have seen this country change DRASTICALLY over the last 30-35 years - and very little of it for the better. Speaking your mind today can cost you everything. That isn't right in the "land of the free".

If you don't think that these Islamic extremists are modern day Nazis - then I can't help you. Left unchecked - they will not stop until everyone who doesn't believe as they do - has converted or died. I hate to be the bearer of bad news - but there it is. Welcome to the 21st Century.

Nope he is not far off. It's called Political Correctness. Had he said something negative about Christians or Christianity in general he would have been hailed and applauded by the PC Lefty Marxist crowd. In the last days "right will seem wrong and wrong will seem right".

Sure Islamic extremists are as bad as modern day Nazis. What Schilling implied though is that they are more than a tiny drop in the bucket of ordinary peaceful Muslims. That's where the offense comes in. No one is saying ISIS or Al Quaeda doesn't suck. But no one is leaving them unchecked.

Unless you live in the Middle East you're pretty safe in your lazy boy in Olathe (HA HA - I just guessed, then looked at your location). Stop watching FoxNews before they terrify you to death.

There are like 1.5 billion Muslims in the world. You're telling me there's a 157 million extremists out there bombing people? That's crazy.

I know reading comprehension and politics are never really combined, but part of the phrase "political correctness" is correct. It's right there in the word. Spouting off a bunch of nonsense and being called out for it is not the end of society.

I had a friend go on a weeklong FBrant after the military recruitment shooting about how much a failure the govt is and how we are under attack by Isis and we need to protect the country. Wanted to tell the guy, you live in rural Arkansas. Some towelhead isn't gonna shoot you tomorrow.
