I'm not sure there was, besides Holland. But I'm assuming they were trying to avoid pitching Medlen back to back nights. It's possible that if they burned Holland that inning, they were essentially out of pitchers. Probably would've had to been Jeremy Guthrie in an emergency role, or Ventura.
