It's been a long time coming. Adiós.

It's time for me to bow out. It's been almost 10 years, and I'm tired.

Tired of the false narratives. Tired of people arguing the poster instead of the post. Tired of discussing football with people who favor excuses over evidence. Tired of wasting time talking about an organization that hasn't won a playoff game in the lifetime of a college senior. Tired of watching other great posters leaving entirely or posting less, weakening the Football IQ this place was known for 5-10 years ago.

I know posting a thread instead of just walking away will open the door for many to take their cheap shots - we all know who they are - and if you don't, just wait. They'll show themselves. Those of you that know me privately know this has been building for a long time.

With all that said, I'll say what I've always said: This team has talent, but will continually fall short as long as they keep thinking you can win in the postseason consistently with average QB play. You don't put enough pressure on the opposing defense, and it puts too much pressure on your defense - if they don't have a near-perfect day, you lose.

Peters and Conley were great picks and should make an impact in the years to come. Should be fun to watch. (What? According to some, I NEVER say anything positive - just another false narrative) While I doubt he'll get his shot, I'd like to see if Murray can be that franchise guy, or if he fell for reasons other than what people here assume - namely, his height and injury history. Hopefully they get Houston signed long-term, because if they don't they are in deep, deep shit. The defense tends to carry this team, and Houston is the most important cog in said defense.

I've made a lot of great friends here that are still friends to this day, and will continue to be. This place was awesome when it was more community based - when there would be gatherings, tailgates, etc. Now, it's littered with trolls that take advantage of the anonymity of the internet and would never show their face in public. That attitude has weakened this place considerably, IMHO.

For those of you I call a friend, we'll be in touch. If anyone that isn't already a friend privately or on Facebook/Twitter wants to continue to keep in touch, I'll keep my PM's open for a week or so.

Thanks, Kyle. It was fun for a while. Queue the "well, bye/sour grapes" posts in 3...2...1.

That's basically Sandy Cheek's cop out.

"Name me one QB that plays well with subpar receivers and line! Just one! Betcha can't do it!"

"Rivers, Brady, Luck, Tannehill, Palmer, Wilson."

"Well, those guys are like good and stuff!"

Yeah, I feel sorry for Rivers having to deal with future Hall of Fame teammates like LaDanian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates.

Poor guy.

Rivers is the most overrated QB in this forum that I've ever seen, even more so than Flacco or Wilson.

No tapping out here, its frustrating to say the same thing over and over and answer the questions correctly only to have the questions changed later

His defense held the record setting Patriots to 14 points in 2008 and 17 points in 2012.

Eli's a very good QB but like most NFL QB's, he can't win it alone.

Despite all of the received handjobs and bluster, you have yet to give that list...

No. Not MY own rankings. Let us actually discuss where these team aspects may rank.. oh god forbid. Can you? Anyone else? I know... discussing the talent of team aspects can be foreign to this forum.. so maybe dust it off.

WTF does it even matter if elite QBs can or can't overcome a terrible OL/WRs/etc? Has the argument ever been that Alex Smith should have gone to or won a SB in the past two seasons? Of course not.

LOL, go back to sleep. You must have missed the last 2 years of Chiefs football, at the very least.

.. and the last 4 years of Alex football.

I don't know when this all became about winning the Super Bowl, and I'm not going to argue with you about precisely ranked groups since you haven't really made that possible, but I can think of 3 QBs who won the SB with shitty OL and WR combos since the turn of the century:

Brady
Roethisberger
Dilfer

Other SB winning QBs had either shitty WR corps or OLs, but not both.

Eli
Rodgers
Wilson

That's 6 of the 10 SB winning QBs since the turn of the century, with Peyton, Brees, Flacco, and Johnson not getting the nod, and Colts fans might argue about that 2006 team.

Austin should have just shut down this thread with his last post.

Alex Smith can win a Super Bowl if he has top 5 caliber units at OL, WR, defense and in special teams (ONE MUFFED PUNT FROM A SUPER BOWL AFTER ALL).

The Chiefs have a defense that is capable of being top 5 and that's not even a certainty. That's it. I guaran-****ing-tee it won't be November till a certain cadre of posters here lambaste the offensive line as one of the worst groups in NFL history.

If that fact doesn't become the narrative, then it will be the apparently shocking revelation that Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce aren't dominant enough players to carry a receiving corps consisting of a 3rd round rookie, a Sun Belt UDFA and Jason Avant into being successful enough to win games consistently.

Or, you know, the defense will actually regress to the mean and not hold teams to an absurd average of 18 points or fewer per game and the narrative will quickly shift to "But you can't expect anyone to win when the defense gives up two TDs and a FG of points per game!" drivel.

Either way, the Chiefs will top out with a 10-6 regular season record at best with yet another first round playoff exit... and this will be surprising to an alarming number of posters here.

Sure. I'd look at them like this:

Dilfer only got there once, with the defensive juggernaut Ravens (2000).

Roethlisberger's 2005 squad had Ward lead the WRs with 69 catches and Randle El second with 35.

Brady's 001 Patriots had Troy Brown with over 100 catches and David Patten with 51. Why were their numbers that high? The next highest WR/TE was a 3 way tie at 14 catches, and one of them was Terry Glenn, who was suspended by the team for the season, won an appeal, but only played 4 games before going back on the shelf due to injury. Brady was effectively using Troy Brown and David Patten as his entire WR/TE corps. As a side note, the Patriots were also a lousy 24th in the NFL in rushing yards per attempt that season, averaging just 3.8 yards per carry.

I might argue that Brady's WR in 2014 were also that kind of shitty, but LaFell played much better than he had in Carolina, and I can't be sure that was all the result of Brady, so I think the argument can at least be countered to some degree.

Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson were the SB champion equivalents of someone winning the World Series of Poker going all in with two pair. It gets the job done, but it also only works if every player holding a straight or better folds and the guys with one pair or high card hand aren't ****ing smart enough to fold as well.
