Think you misunderstood me, when I meant 'next season' I meant the one following the one we are entering in now. He's got almost a year and a half to get into game shape

Leaving Houston where he's at is best for the organization. He will be playing for a contract again which should mean we get his best and at the same time we will have cap room next year to address this appropriately.

If we don't sign him long term this year I am starting to wonder if we should sign him long term at all. He will be 27 after the season is over. How many pass rushers over the age of 30 are dominant enough to deserve a top contract? We don't need to sign him to a huge contract and then try and have to cut him 3 years into a 5 or 6 year contract.

Most contracts are easy to get out of after the first 3-4 years. After that the guaranteed money has already been paid. |

Figuring that this contract is going to approach $100M I figure that this contract will probably be 6 years. If we are half way through we are going to have to eat half of his signing bonus. I am figuring that the signing bonus will be very large and trying to eat half of that is going to be a big pill to swallow.

After that our biggest talent is likely gone. In that time period do EVERYTHING you can to win one. If that means there's a price to pay, fine. If we win a SB in the next 3 years I don't care how much Houston makes. Hell, I don't care how much anyone makes...
