If we could get Kendricks signed to an extension that would pay him somewhere in the $5m per year ballpark, it'd essentially be like giving a not-quite-as-good-but-younger DJ an extension.

I'm not sure if we could finagle that kind of deal but it could end up being a great trade for us if so...

Mychal Kendricks would be okay. Third or fourth. Fourth preferably. I wouldn't give up a second in this draft considering how many quality WR prospects are going to be there/available that fit this team. Even in the third.

OK. According to OverTheCap, the highest paid ILB is Timmons at just shy of $10m per and there are two guys tied for 10th at $6m per in Dansby and Lofton. In between those guys you've got big names like Bowman, Laurinaitis, Mayo and Sean Lee.

I'm sure those numbers will be all jacked up after Wagner and Keuchly get their new deals..

So maybe something averaging around $7m per?

Sure. All I know is that our defense would improve, big time, with Kendricks at one of the ILB positions. He's a proven tackler, pass defender and even pass rusher.

Well, yeah. I think we all sort of expect DJ, Hali and most likely Sean Smith to be off the books after this season. That'll free up a ton of cash.

The only catch about signing Kendricks is that we'd have to up his cap hits after the initial 2015 season since we basically have no cap room at the moment and still need to sign rookies... But I'm sure the guys could get creative with some backloading. I wouldn't worry about that too much although the numbers may look a bit large on the back end.

You could lick houston up to free up money but who knows about that.

Houston, Poe, kendricks and hopefully a draft pick would be your young core?
