Okay so he wasn't throwing deep then in that video???

The point of note from that video is the protection he was getting in SF that he hasn't got from our OL.....

but keep telling us how he won't throw deep and we watch a video of him throwing deep

The ability to throw deep - yeah, it's there.

The willingness to make those throws on a regular basis - nope nope nope.

Maclin works all over the field. He's just going to pile up YAC; which is fine for this offense.

That will happen for only one of a few reasons:

1. He isn't the #1 and won't draw the attention
2. He will put more effort into his play indicating he was not here
3. He will in some kind of a system that schemes him open

We have all said for the last few years that Bowe never gets separation and can't burn anyone. But Alex Smith.....

4. He'll have a QB that throws it to him and allows him to screen off defenders.

I don't think this is always a smart approach, but it is how a WR like Bowe gets his numbers. Bowe will simply body guys off the football and get it; he's kinda open even when he isn't open.

That's not gonna work for Smith. He's a processor - If Bowe's his first read and there's a guy in his pocket, he's moving to the next guy. In many cases, perhaps throwing to Bowe and letting Bowe out-muscle the DB would've yielded better results than finding Charles as an outlet. In other cases it wouldn't have.

It's up for debate which approach yields a better overall offense but there's no debate which approach yields better numbers for Bowe.
