Tell me about sod!

Got about 150-200 sq feet in my front yard that needs some new sod, due to me tearing out a pepper tree that had an extensive root system that killed surrounding areas of grass growth.

Had the stump grinded, and have tore out/dug up most of the roots (which were long as hell by the way)......and now I'm ready to lay some new sod.

Question: Is this something I can do on my own, or should I pay the extra and have it done?

Considerations: I do not have access to a tiller, or roller - and I dont have a truck to haul the equipment even if I rented it.

But - could I get by with digging up the spotty turf, spraying round-up, and "ghetto-tilling" with a metal rake?

Thanks in advance for any and all tips.....

I hate sod and seeding. Mainly because I don't have a sprinkler system and I have to remember to water it. Last time I literally paid some swinging dick to come back to my house a couple times a week to water it. Cuz I wasn't going to remember to drag the hose & sprinkler around all week. Use of straw is helpful though, to keep in the moisture.

Yes you can do on your own. I had to replace mine at least three times. And I have an underground sprinkler system too.

Only mine was destroyed by heat and bugs while we had a no water ordinance. Now I have re-claimed water and it survived the last re-sodding.

I kind of figured there was no way a landscaping gig could go well in any capacity, so I stayed away.

I'd be cussing like Spalding all up and down that ****ing golf course.

Definitely that here too. It's funny that they never choose Lowe's.

This.

This phenomena needs to be explored in great detail. Does Lowe's have a "call the cops/INS"-policy in regards to the day labor, or is Lowe's too "highfalutin'" for today's upwardly mobile migrant?

It's pretty easy. If you have a tow hitch on your car, tillers are rented mounted on their own special trailer. That would turn a 4 hour shovel job into a 10 minute job.

Grass seed is way, way cheaper though.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with grass in a natural desert.
