I would have listed the bathroom attached to my bedroom as my personal luxury, but it's apparently not mine.
With 3 options, if anyone is home I can barely click the lock on the door before someone is rattling the door because they are feuding with a sibling, want to push a juice box under the door because a straw won't go in......or forgot to tell me one thing before she leaves to do xyz. With an option, specifically designed for them, 15' from their bedroom doors, the kids will come to my room, wake me up at 3am, either with a hand over their mouth/puke face or to tell me they've got to take a dump....and then turn on lights and fans in the one in my room before I wake up enough to tell them to go down to theirs. Therefor, though it includes many amenities, I cannot list the master bath as my personal luxury. |

I'm not sure how people are saving $1000's per year by burning wood unless you're completely off the grid. My total gas bill for the 12 months in 2014 was $810. I do have an efficient furnace, but an old water heater and use my NG gas grill a lot. About 30% of the $810 have nothing to do with the price of gas, but are fees, taxes, delivery, etc., that everyone pays that is hooked up to a gas line.

I should probably do a parenting blog "shit my kids say/do"
I got a blow by blow explanation yesterday of a boy being in trouble at preschool because "he came and called me and kid name "you bitch" and then he went to the kitchen center and told "kid name and kid name "you bitch"....I finally snap chatted it to people. I knew it was a retelling of a story because the kids knows it's vinegar and whoopin' for swearing at our house. Juice boxes don't fit under doors just because your fingers do kid....Get a Brain, MorAn! |

We live in a > 100 year old farmhouse where there was no way to run ducts. We heat the house with two free standing gas stoves. When we put them in, I had zero interest in going wood. Having to deal with getting wood, storing it, dragging it into the house, trying to keep a fire going, have smoke/soot in the house, maintaining chimneys, etc made it a complete no go for me. Add in the increasing regulations for wood fired stoves and burning and it was a no brainer. I wouldn't really save anything either when you count the price of wood (or the time cost of getting it).
If I had to go that route, I would do what the guy I work with does - have an outside boiler that brings hot water into the house for heat. |
