Buccaneers trade safety Mark Barron to Rams
The Buccaneers weren't kidding about dangling Mark Barron as trade bait. NFL Media's Albert Breer reported that Tampa Bay's starting safety has been shipped to the St. Louis Rams ahead of Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, per a Bucs and Rams source. St. Louis will send Tampa a fourth-rounder and sixth-rounder in return. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport noted Tuesday morning that the Bucs were open to moving Barron, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft who racked up just three interceptions over 37 starts on the heels of a stellar career at Alabama. The backstop -- ranked No. 66 at his position by Pro Football Focus -- hasn't lived up to his pedigree. Still, it's another intriguing addition to a feisty Rams defense that currently houses T.J. McDonald and Rodney McLeod at safety. The Bucs are also finishing up a deal to trade linebacker Jonathan Casillas to the Patriots. In the end, Tampa held on to running back Doug Martin and wide receiver Vincent Jackson. |

As recently noted, Bucs also traded LB Casillas to the Patriots. A six year vet who is 6'1", 227 lbs. Bigger than a safety, smaller than most LBs. We have two significant injuries at LB/DE, but Casillas doesn't really replace either one (both are like 250+ lbs.). Not sure what the plan is. He's clearly a special teamer, but maybe he's good in pass coverage, which the Pats could definitely use at LB (just like most teams), so maybe he comes in on dime/nickel packages or something.
No word on what the Pats gave the Bucs for him yet.

Bucs finishing up trade of Jonathan Casillas to Patriots
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were indeed the team to watch ahead of the trade deadline, but unloading a backup linebacker won't exactly send ripples throughout the league. The Bucs are finishing up a trade to send veteran linebacker Jonathan Casillas to the New England Patriots, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports, via two sources involved in the deal. Casillas, 27, has started 15 of 55 career games across five seasons in New Orleans and Tampa. Battling hamstring and groin injures, he has yet to play a defensive snap in October. Casillas was a rotational player early in the season, playing roughly half of the snaps at strongside linebacker. In addition to his special teams experience, Casillas will provide depth for the Patriots with Jerod Mayo and Chandler Jones sidelined. The swap gives the Patriots insurance but doesn't measurably improve their roster. As for the Buccaneers, NFL Media's Albert Breer reports wide receiver Vincent Jackson and running back Doug Martin are staying put after safety Mark Barron was shipped off to St. Louis. |

Rumor is the Pats are "flipping picks" with TB, so maybe we give them a Round X for a Round X+1 pick (our 5th for their 6th or whatever)? Pretty vague so far. Not that anyone here much cares of course...

I, for one, never wanted Lovie here. I wanted Andy. I thought he was our best option for what our roster was. And I still do.

Again, not that you care, but Pats gave TB their 5th for TB's 6th, so figure it's a move of 10-15 spots at most. Hardly anything.
Casillas is coming off injury too I guess.
