Dayton Moore Appreciation Thread
We tend to run GMs, Coaches, and Mangers out pretty quickly. Let's take a look at what Dayton has done here. 2012 was especially good. What is your favorite Dayton move?
Salvador Perez: On February 27, 2012, Pérez signed a five-year, $7 million extension that includes three club options. He is under team control through 2019. He could earn up to $26.75 million if he reaches all of his incentives and all of his options are picked up. The extension covers his pre-arbitration seasons, two of his three arbitration eligible years, and, if all of his options are picked up, his final arbitration year and his first two years of free agency.[2] Pérez will earn $.75 million in 2012, $1 million in 2013, $1.5 million in 2014, $1.75 million in 2015 and $2 million in 2016. His options are $3.75 million in 2017, $5 million in 2018 and $6 million in 2019. Big Game: On December 9, 2012, Shields was traded to the Kansas City Royals (along with Wade Davis) in exchange for Wil Myers, Jake Odorizzi, Mike Montgomery and Patrick Leonard.[16] In his first year as a Royal, Shields posted a 13-9 record with a 3.15 ERA, also setting a personal best in games started. On October 31, 2013 the Kansas City Royals exercised a $13.5 million option on Shields for the 2014 season. Hosmer: Drafted in 2008. In the 2014 postseason, Hosmer helped lead the Royals to a record-setting run, winning three consecutive extra-inning games. After getting on base five times in the wildcard game against the Oakland A's, Hosmer also slammed a game-winning, two-run homer in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In doing so, the first baseman became the first player in MLB history to hit both a triple and a home run during extra innings in one year's postseason. Need help nowish?: innegan was considered a top prospect for the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft.[7] The Kansas City Royals selected Finnegan in the first round, 17th overall, of the draft.[8] He signed on June 28.[9] Finnegan was called up to the majors for the first time on September 1, 2014 becoming the first player from the 2014 Draft to be promoted to the majors |

How about this one? :
On December 18, 2010, Lorenzo Cain was traded to the Kansas City Royals with Alcides Escobar, Jeremy Jeffress, and Jake Odorizzi for Zack Greinke and Yuniesky Betancourt.[4] Cain was sent down to KC's AAA ball club, the Omaha Storm Chasers, before the start of the 2011 MLB season. On February 18, 2012 the Royals announced they had signed Cain to a one-year contract for the 2012 season. No financial terms of the deal were released.[5] |

Honestly he has made a lot of good moves, the Greinke trade I think is the best move. This netted us Cain, Escobar, and Odorizzi (who was a major part of the Shields trade). He cleaned up by getting rid of a player who did not want to be here anymore anyways. Hard to say Hosmer was a great move because he was supposed to be this good and he has only really turned it on in the playoffs. He can be absent for large stretches of the regular season.

Dayton can do whatever he wants in the next few years for this run and especially if we make the WS. Not one person, even us, thought we'd be two games from the WS and having not lost a single playoff game at this point.

I met Dayton several years ago at a luncheon. Afterwards he took questions from everyone. A few of us asked him a few things, and he spent probably 15 min answering all sorts of questions. I couldn't believe he took that much time with us average Joes. I don't know him personally but from all accounts, he's a great person. I really wanted to see him succeed here not just as a lifelong Royals fan, but because he's one of the true good guys in pro sports.
I didn't think it would happen for him but damn, he's just crushed all his doubters. Crushed. |

I remember the NLCS in 2011 playing the Brewers. The announcers were talking about the Brewers being all in to get past us because they gave up so much to get Grienke. I had saw Cain in a September call up and knew he was top shelf talent. Needless to say leaving the Brewers in tears on their home field to go on to the WS was pleasant. In the long run, they didn't get shit but a playoff run to the NLCS. They are a pathtic team that collapsed horribly this year. Now you got the young players and on the verge of a WS. I'd say that is a big big win for everyone that is a fan of the Royals.
