You would spend a roster spot on someone who isn't athletic enough for special teams, isn't versatile enough to line up anywhere except for LDE, and has only applied pressure exclusively against back-up to PS level RTs?

For some reason Sam Reminds me of Jovan Belcher, a guy who I loved (on the field). Didn't have measurables, but had intangibles, and he played with a lot of heart and just plugged away at the game. Personally, I just never saw Sam as a "Pass Rush" guy, even when he was in college. He looked like a run stopper either in a 4-3 DE mold or a 3-4 thumper. That being said, back to the Rams for a second. If I'm their Front Office and just had my Franchise QB go down for the year before its even started, and I know I'm on borrowed time, I'm going to cut the roster down to 54 people today, and leave that one last spot a question mark until the last minute, and I"m not cutting Sam. I'm going to make it very public through social media that Sam was still safe when everyone went to bed tonight, and have the fans biting nails waiting to see who that 53rd man is. From there, I wait until the last minute tomorrow and announce that Sam has made the team as the 53rd man, and then throughout the year as things progress, I start a small fandom movement called "the 53rd man", with the emphasis of a man beating the odds as a 7th round draft pick and working his way up in the world. The fans will eat that shit up for months and maintain ticket sales and prices until the team hits their 6th loss. |

The best comp for Sam isn't Jovan Belcher,IMO. If he hits his ceiling, he's Wallace Gilberry. An undersized pass rushing specialist that can play RDE/LDE or kick inside in a nickel sub-package and get pressure on the QB.

It's nice seeing posts from people like Hamas who have actually watched him play. Spot on. He definitely has a place as a situational pass rusher in this league.

A situational pass rusher has to play special teams to stick. Sam didn't.
I think he'll make a practice squad on potential, but the more I think about it if he isn't a special teams beast he's taking a spot from someone who contributes there as a backup. |

Told you guys that Sam wasn't going to make it. Sure he made a couple of plays against back-up scrub RTs, but he has absolutely no position versatility. Nowhere near athletic enough to stand up for the LB role, nowhere near explosive enough to rush effectively in a wide-9, nowhere near strong enough to be a good interior pass rusher, and he wasn't even athletic enough to be used in kick coverage. It's hilarious how much people are harping for this guy when, in reality, he's a mediocre talent, at best, who is a one-trick pony.
