As much as I pushed back on blaming Yost for the loss, I think the disconnect is I was looking at the entire game like a math equation, which is how I usually assign wins and losses. We have one loss to assign, I'd probably carve out three-fourths of it and slap that 0.75 loss on Guthrie's forehead, and the rest goes to Yost and the offense to some degree.

That said, what Yost did was still annoying. He managed the bullpen as if the rules of baseball said there are no extra innings and the home team wins all ties or something. As much crap as Gardenhire gets for burning through his bullpen, at least he still had another option for the 11th.

Looking back at it, the Frasor 1 batter thing isn't quite as egregious because I thought we were tied, but we weren't. We were down 5-4 so you might think we'd either be blanked or score a bunch. It was still the wrong move, but he had Herrera warming up when we tied it, and he probably didn't want to warm him up again.

After that though, we're tied in the 8th, if Davis is not available, then you've got to at least start thinking about extra innings. You don't want Holland to pitch more than 1 inning? Fine, make Herrera go two. I have seen teams plan for the 10th inning at home and bring their closer out in extra innings before.

If you pitch Frasor 1 1/3 and Herrera 2 like you are supposed to, and you are left with Chen in the 12th, fine whatever.

It's funny because you were arguing with Hootie and me all night, and now you're saying the exact same thing we were saying.
