USA Today predicts Chiefs at 4-12 for 2014

I could see it happening but really 6-8 wins seems pretty doable.

AFC West

Broncos 12-4 (2): Could be better than 2013 team even if wins and offensive output dip. But schedule is murderous.

Chargers 8-8: Last year's schedule allowed late-season charge. This year's could easily produce late-season slide.

Chiefs 4-12: Tight salary cap meant crippling free agent defections, and they didn't sufficiently reload in draft.

Raiders 3-13: Best thing influx of over-the-hill vets can do is change culture. Carr, Mack promise brighter days ahead.

That sexy 1.1 Guard pick. We can only hope Dorsey has more gems like this in store.

This.

Which is why i hate it when people act like the preseason doesn't matter. It most certainly does. It give you a great indication of where the strengths and weaknesses are on this team and we can easily see how the season will start.

Most of us knew our secondary was going to be horrible, though some argued they needed to be given a chance. Through two preseason games it's obvious that their is a gaping hole at the CB position, and safety might STILL be an issue.

The preseason thus far has pretty much confirmed what some posters knew were going to be an issue.

My Prediction: This team will be both fun and frustrating. They're going to make a lot of big plays and give up even more big plays. The defense is going to get roasted by any decent QB (i'd say that the top 20 QB's will wreck us). This season is going to feel like the Vermiel Era.

The offense will march down the field and put together a nice 8-10 play drive and then the defense will come on the field and get scored on in a few plays. We're going to see the return of the career day defense.

Having said that, I am just about to write off Eric Fisher. It isn't that I don't think rookies can develop, but the guy just has terrible balance, terrible feet. It isn't his strength, it's that he's always teetering on one foot and he can just get thrown aside so damn easily. I don't know if that's ever going to be fixed. He's athletic and big and strong and I just don't think he'll ever be a legit tackle. Sad.

And yikes these cornerbacks. Sean Smith got beat on the same inside release twice last night. Why we aren't taking a page out of Seattle's playbook and forcing every receiver to release to the sideline is beyond me.

We still are more likely to go to the playoffs than go 4-12, though. Sorry, but I'll wait to panic until after Jamaal and Berry are in the game.

Not only that, but so clearly the Panthers were taking that more seriously than everyone except Bowe and Smith. It was obviously a big game for them, to have Cam return for their first home appearance. They needed to send a message that they are back and ready to contend, and the fans bought it.

There's a lot to be concerned about, but it's not time to hit the panic button.
Agree.

At this stage of his career, I don't see how any Alex Smith team goes 4-12. To lose that many games, you have to make a lot of big mistakes and I just don't see him making them.

OL sucks like predicted, Alex dies week 2, Chase Daniel comes in and shows why he's been holding a clipboard his entire career. Hello 4-12.

Watching Butt Chin all year would be torture on par with having season tickets for 2012 again.

If we win 5 games or less, that would be a disaster after just one year of Reid.

I think we will win 7-9 games at best. It will be a tough and challenging year as far as everything I see.

With alex Smith, if healthy all year the team wins 8 games minimum. If he is hurt week 2, this team drafts top 3.

Jamaal is all-world, but you can survive with Knile Davis. This team wouldn't win more than a single game with Chase Daniel.

This is a 6-win team. Bad OL, bad defense, QB completely incapable of covering up those warts.
