DayZ
With the DayZ standalone playable alpha release looming, I thought I would check out the mod version of the game. http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/
If you dont know, DayZ is an open world survival zombie game modification based off of the military sim ArmA 2 games. www.dayzmod.com Basically its hardcore mode survival against zombies and even more dangerous, other players. I have been watching vids for months and took advantage of a steam sale today to pick up ArmA 2. Anyone playing DayZ right now? Servers? Thoughts? I have a teamspeak we can use! |

Fruit Ninja representing H1z1 vs. Hometeam representing DayZ.
There can only be one. |

I dont rep anything.
I just see a major difference between the two. One, a full on military simulator, hardcore survival game. The other, an arcade-esque shooter with elements of of a hardcore survival game. Nothing says h1z1 is going to be bad, but its not going to be DayZ, and vice versa. |

Today they had some streamer online to play and in the few hours he got to play, there was no guns. There was a ****ton of zombies and a few other player characters he killed. When you die, the only thing you keep in H1Z1 is knowledge of items that you have already crafted. One of the main things for me on why this game intrigues me is that they will keep adding on to the world. Its not like just this map and thats it. As time goes on they will add on to it. Game uses chunks so, its not taxing on the computer. IF no one is occupying a certain area, then the server shuts that area down until someone enters it. The potential for HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE world is there. For a game like this, thats pretty ****ing bad ass. |

shows hordes. The dev spawned it, but its going to show you the possibility of what a horde will look like in the game. Zombies are still wonky though, after all it is pre alpha. In the video he spawned 175 zombies at once. This is just the whole embeded thing the zombie horde spawning starts at like 1:51:32 Last edited by kcxiv; 07-11-2014 at 02:30 PM.. |

yea I watched it live.
I stand by statements. Arcade style gameplay shooter with hardcore survival. In fact if you watched the chat for that there where tons of people arguing about both games, and pretty much consensus is that h1z1 looks like COD (or PS2) in DayZ clothing, kind of like WarZ was. And of course DayZ was a piece of shit with no vehicles. DayZ is a military simulator, literally, the engine is based off of Arma which BIH sells to militaries to simulate battles etc, that's why things like wind/bullet drop has to be exact, and not an emulated version Also, the graphics on h1z1 are shit compared to DayZ except for the effects like snow/fog/etc, when DayZ goes to dx11 it will be able to pull off the same stuff. So right now, DayZ actually is in playable alpha, where h1z1 Is not, even though h1z1 has a completed engine. Once again, I will try out h1z1 but I don't have confidence that it will inspire heart pounding player interactions like dayz, which is the whole thing that made DayZ what it is. Ya know, the game h1z1 is trying to be. |

DayZ should sacrifice visuals for more zombies.
Home have you ever had anyone turn on you in DayZ? |

As for visuals for zombies well.. it doesn't work that way really, there are tons of zombies in DayZ, just not concentrated. In order to add more server performance has to be beefed up, and they actually took a huge step today by implementing the initial new navmesh in experimental, as well as they are working on server side improvements like 64 bit etc. Visuals are more of a client side thing, adding more zombies is server side. DayZ WILL get upgraded visuals soon enough, when the switch to dx11 it will be more like ARMA 3 where you have all the after effects and particle effects and just a ton more flexibility, with far better performance. Right now its dx9 which sucks ass. |

When there are more then just a hand full of internal Dev's playing there will be more of that "heart pounding/pumping" thing you describe.
Like i said, i dont see difference in game outside of the Military experience. WEll, unless you count the pre alpha game looks more polished then the alpha game. There will also be different servers for the hardest of hardcore survivalists. |

I get your hyped, and again, I only call em like I see em, I have no wish for h1z1 to be anything but awesome. I just think they are 2 different games, with the same theme, both of which are not released. |

I have said it before, but DayZ needs vehicles. It's going to be bad ass when it does.

that will HELP A ****TON. Even if its freaking bikes. It also needs a better night. Because once it hits night in DayZ all the people on the server VANISH and fast. Random spawns, not resetting of servers and zombies, After that we are good to go.

Damn Right im excited about a game I thought i was getting when i paid 30 bucks for DayZ. I had some good times in there, but most of the time i was ****ing frustrated because they spawned you in a couple of area's area's where everything was picked ****ing clean and the only real reasonable way to get geared up was to travel 2 hours without ****ing auto run. lol The zombie spawning thing was a tool he used to show there was hordes of zombies. The command just spawned the same type of zombie. There are different looking zombies in game, with diffferent clothes and what not. Even a player character that turned into a zombie when he died and when you killed that zombie you got to loot what he had on him. Anyways, it looks fun to me, and to me top notch graphics dont make a game, yes they are nice to look at, but ill take lesser graphics for smoother gameplay 10 out of 10 times. This is planetside on high settings, if anyone thinks those graphics suck, then i dunno what to say. Its the same forelight engine being used. |
