I get it, you either want them to go all in for a 1 or 2 year push, or scrap everything and build from the foundation up.

You are just going to have to resign yourself to the fact that they believe they can have some of their cake and eat it too. They want to put a competitive team on the field this year, without completely sacrificing the future to do it. I don't know if they will be successful, but there are never guarantees in any of these decisions. I'm looking forward to watching to see how it all turns out.
This is a replay of the 90's. "Cake and eat it too" means fill the stands first and compete for a championship second.

I was thinking about this today.

We all love these core guys. The guys you mentioned here.

But do we overrate them? I mean, they've been here for a while, and collectively haven't won much. CP has always dismissed it as, bad coaching, bad front office, shit QB etc.

But at some point, if said "core" is good enough, shouldn't they be able to overcome some of that stuff? I'm not saying they should, or that I think they should, but it's something to think about.

Simply, is this current core, worth as much as we think they are?

Hali is one of the top 2 or 3 pass rushers they've had in the past 25 years. I don't think he's overvalued by any means.

Maybe the core as a whole is overvalued but at some point we've got to admit that they've been largely surrounded by garbage.

If said "core" doesnt name a QB then you know the answer to why the team isn't winning.

This.

They probably won't be appreciated until they are gone, and we're unable to replace them.

I agree.

But that brings up another point. How many great players do you need in core?

As of right now, I'd say

Berry
Bowe
Poe
DJ
Houston
Poe
Flowers
Charles
A.Smith

Are your core players. Thats 3 on offense, 6 on defense. How many do you need? Obviously you hope your first overall pick from last year becomes a Core guy at LT (puke) and that you have some young emerging guys step into it.

I actually agree on all of your points except one.

I'm going into this with the idea that Dorsey has to prove he can do it. Most of you are going into it with the idea the Dorsey has to prove he CAN'T.

Nobody is worth implicit trust anymore. Nobody.

It is a business after all. Don't you need to fill the stands to pay for all the big players you want to pay? You may dream that a multi-bazillion-aire is going to buy the Chiefs and just open the checkbook - thinking nothing of profit and only of a championship, but for most teams for all the sports the reality is that it's a business. I don't fault Hunt for wanting to put something competitive on the field to "fill seats". I'm pro capitalism. But I also give them the benefit of the doubt that they are also striving for consistently and steadily building for the future.

After the past few years, contrary to what I used to think, I'm more of a believer that winning isn't as much about talent but is much more conducive, atleast at that highest level, to coaching, development, continuity etc.

I think the talent, league wide, is pretty close every where. I don't think theres a huge difference between the best team and the average team.
