Yep. While I've been mulling my options for a couple of weeks, that call was my final straw. I turned the TV off and went for a run after that play, because I knew the game was over. As an aside, they also called a penalty against the Titans' cornerback on the same play for defensive holding, and yet he's nowhere in the picture because he was pushed down by Decker.
And that's not even an intended slight against the Broncos. That play is a statement about the rules and to a lesser extent the treatment that star players get. If a defensive back can no longer hit a wide receiver who appears to be catching a ball, then I'm no longer interested in professional football. The NFL is just a venue for throwing and catching and touchdowns that are exciting to people who don't know anything about football.

Latter in the game TN was called for holding on the O-line when Von Miller was "held" in the exact same manner as Hali is on 50% of his blitzes. Sorry, don't have a gif of the play. Just remember either Nantz or Simms saying that would be called holding every time and I lost my shit yelling at the TV.

Wooow, that was all shoulder to shoulder, at no time did his helmet contact deckers... thats friggin pathetic.
Its hard not to be conspiracy minded when you see those kind of calls go the same handful of teams way, week in and week out. |

I started thinking there was some NFL influence on games when the Donks beat the Chiefs in 1997 at Arrowhead in the playoffs. There was a phantom holding call against Greg Manusky on a 39 yard (i think) field goal. The kick would have been good. They then missed the re try. Couple of drives later, and the chiefs are in easy field goal range, but down by 4. Game ends on downs. It sets up the Elway vs. Favre Superbowl, which is much better for ratings than Grbac/Favre.
Then, the next year, the donks violate the cap, win a superbowl with veterans they are able to keep because of the violation, but it isn't discovered until after the season? Really? Then they get slapped with a draft pick as the penalty? Hmm, ok. That's when I began to think it was at least partially influenced, if not rigged. |

I believe the refs try to control some games, yes. I definitely believe they try to control the spread of some games as well.
