Dayton Moore Appreciation Thread

We tend to run GMs, Coaches, and Mangers out pretty quickly. Let's take a look at what Dayton has done here. 2012 was especially good. What is your favorite Dayton move?

Salvador Perez:

On February 27, 2012, Pérez signed a five-year, $7 million extension that includes three club options. He is under team control through 2019. He could earn up to $26.75 million if he reaches all of his incentives and all of his options are picked up. The extension covers his pre-arbitration seasons, two of his three arbitration eligible years, and, if all of his options are picked up, his final arbitration year and his first two years of free agency.[2] Pérez will earn $.75 million in 2012, $1 million in 2013, $1.5 million in 2014, $1.75 million in 2015 and $2 million in 2016. His options are $3.75 million in 2017, $5 million in 2018 and $6 million in 2019.

Big Game:

On December 9, 2012, Shields was traded to the Kansas City Royals (along with Wade Davis) in exchange for Wil Myers, Jake Odorizzi, Mike Montgomery and Patrick Leonard.[16] In his first year as a Royal, Shields posted a 13-9 record with a 3.15 ERA, also setting a personal best in games started. On October 31, 2013 the Kansas City Royals exercised a $13.5 million option on Shields for the 2014 season.

Hosmer:

Drafted in 2008. In the 2014 postseason, Hosmer helped lead the Royals to a record-setting run, winning three consecutive extra-inning games. After getting on base five times in the wildcard game against the Oakland A's, Hosmer also slammed a game-winning, two-run homer in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In doing so, the first baseman became the first player in MLB history to hit both a triple and a home run during extra innings in one year's postseason.

Need help nowish?:

innegan was considered a top prospect for the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft.[7] The Kansas City Royals selected Finnegan in the first round, 17th overall, of the draft.[8] He signed on June 28.[9] Finnegan was called up to the majors for the first time on September 1, 2014 becoming the first player from the 2014 Draft to be promoted to the majors

Best comparison to describe the situation Moore inherited when he became Royals GM in 2006 was K State's football program when Bill Snyder originally became their HC.

An organization in complete shambles that had to be built up from scratch without the payroll advantages of a big market franchise.

Perez's contract really is a steal. Even for someone who will swing at anything.

Hosmer's been a hero of the postseason, but his overall performance is definitely in the "good but not great" category.

It would be nice to have a legit offensive all-star on this team. Gordon has been on the verge for years, but he always seems to have a month or so where he just disappears.

I see they brought him down to the Arizona Fall League. I feel like he's been around forever but he is only 22 years old.

I've been frustrated by Dayton Moore. There were times in 2012 and even last year that I had given up on his process.

But he deserves major credit for making things work. He built up the farm and used it as the core of the current, competing team (and has it poised to start contributing valuable starting pitching help). The trades have been, for the most part, positive ones.

He has succeeded. THE PROCESS has worked. And even though I might have doubted it, goddamn I'm glad those doubts have been proven wrong.

The thing I'm most amazed by is that he just may have, either accidentally or with knowledge, identified a market inefficiency in defense and speed. People are so obsessed with home runs and walks post-moneyball, they may have neglected the rest.

I've bitched along with everyone else about GMDM, but yeah...in my face.

And I'm loving every freaking second of it. All of it. Thanks GMDM.

No man, you believed. You owe zero mea culpas, you said they'd make te playoffs this year and they did. It's the data hounds like me that Dayton ran roughshod over. I don't even believe it after seeing it. He's totally shocked the baseball world and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy
