Yes I do, a place I worked at previously the owner was big into it.
It was suggested that everyone contribute 1 percent of your pay to the United Way it if you wanted management off your back and to move up in the company so you play the game and give. |

**** These people;
Brian Gallagher, President of the United Way receives a $375,000 base salary (U.S. funds), plus so many numerous expense benefits it's hard to keep track as to what it is all worth, including a fully paid lifetime membership for 2 golf courses (1 in Canada, and 1 in the U.S.A.), 2 luxury vehicles, a yacht club membership, 3 major company gold credit cards for his personal expenses...and so on. This equates to about $0.51 per dollar of income goes to charity causes. Read more at http://www.snopes.com/politics/busin...Z28XU0zS5Pu.99 |

Charity Navigator rates this organization's efficiency at 89%, while Forbes rates it at 85% Read more at http://www.snopes.com/politics/busin...U1BG6wcqGsP.99 89% efficiency isn't that bad. But I agree with whomever posted about the Salvation Army. |

For me personally, I will never give a penny to the Salvation Army. A number of years back a guy won the lottery. I think it was in Tennessee or South Carolina and he wanted to donate $100k to them but they would not take it becuase he got the money "gambling".
I gamble so therefore they don't want my money. Those pieces of garbage will let any person throw money into a pot and never bat an eye. Don't ask don't tell. But you know that gamblers, pedos, rapists and the like have all slipped a few coins in their stupid red kettle. Eff the Salvation Army. |

If I want to give to a charity, I give to the Salvation Army. That money gets to the places and people that need it.

The whole thing is so disingenuous. They promote the fact that the money raised at your workplace is spent locally... sure, after they rake their 22% off the top, or whatever the latest estimate is.
They also give money to a lot of things that people would have problems of conscience with. They counter this objection by saying "Well, you can designate where you want the money to go if you wish." Sure, but why wouldn't I just donate it to straight them, then? |
