John Dorsey and the Eric Berry decision

Yet another reason I think John Dorsey was the best GM the Chiefs have ever had is that he seems to be proven right about this team so far when it came to the Eric Berry deal.

Eric Berry cost this team a gigantic chunk of change -- and he's well worth it. He's the best safety in the league and a true locker room leader and the face of the franchise.

I forget where I read it, but wasn't it a rumor that the Berry negotiations were a huge sticking point with Clark Hunt getting worn down on Dorsey?

Berry wanted a massive payday, and Dorsey was balking, on the verge of letting him go. It got to the point, so say the rumors, that Berry wasn't even talking to the team until Clark himself had to step in.

Well, what if Dorsey hadn't paid Berry? And let Berry walk?

Seriously, I'm asking.

Berry played a magnificent game against Gronk, but the Chiefs are 4-0 without him, stifling Wentz, Rivers, Cousins, and Watson.

Obviously we're only 5 games into the season, but isn't John Dorsey looking like he's been proven correct on this call so far?

EDIT: Can a mod fix my thread title? Please and thank you.

Considering he'll be making a million a game soon...and the team is 5-0 without him?

I'l take an elite CB over a safety everyday...or two $8 million dollar players that are great but not all-pro.

I think John learned his lesson with Houston...spread your eggs out...too much financial risk in a violent game.

I said when the deal happened that these guys were professionals...and Berry's "rah rah" speeches were nice but not essential to success.

Let me know when sorensen is remotely close to his level.

An elite safety that limits a TE like Rob Gronkowski, and that is a difference maker against the run is every bit as valuable as an elite corner.

Not to mention he's a guy who makes plays at crucial moments on top of his all around skills.

Kc won without Justin Houston.

Doesn't make Justin Houston less valuable.

This team is deep and talented and has a coaching staff that can hide weaknesses.

One of those weaknesses for KC, right now, is their defense. Which would be better if 29 was out there.

I heard about his heel issue.

I wasn't aware that was related to an achilles, and I read articles about it. I usually don't think much of strains and stuff. They heal, and a guy goes back to work. Don't remember a lot of talk about the tendon. Figured it was similar to other heel issues I remember, like the one Tony Gonzalez had for a few years.

I did, however, go back and found an article from 2014 that laid it out in detail. It was indeed related to tendonitis in his achilles.

I know ALL about tendonitis. My knees would swell like grapefruits when I was a teenager to the point my kneecap was a dimple. The thing about tendonitis is... it heals.
