Andrew Luck Retires

Filed to ESPN: Andrew Luck has informed the Colts he is retiring from the NFL, per source. There will be a press conference Sunday to make it official, but Luck is mentally worn down, and now checking out.

Acting like Andrew Luck is a gladiator is ridiculous. He plays a violent sport sure but he is no gladiator. He's a QB who didnt want to go through rehab so he retired.
And acting like retiring from a profession that is incredibly detrimental to your health and overall wellbeing is a selfish decision is equally ignorant...

Food for thought

Why do people care so much if he was booed or not...like it is some national crisis drunk sports fans were upset that their best player was quitting. Who cares

Hes free to retire. Fans are free to boo. They bought their ticket. They can voice their concern or lqck therof as they see fit

Gladiators were slaves but were not criminals. Gladiators rarely killed each other because it takes a lot of money to train and equip one, not to mention good ones could make themselves and their owner quite a bit of money.

Not saying this makes Luck an asshole in life but this was def a dick move.

Doesnt surprise me the QB lovers on here will defend anything a superstar QB does.
Saying he deserved to get booed and then saying HE lacks empathy? That's jedi mind trick level mental skills there, well done.

Andrew Luck as a franchise QB would certainly qualify as a position essential to the function/operation of the Colts franchise.
Most employers don't have a back up for their executives on the pay roll who's job is to step in if the main man can't go?

Oh and the notice thing isn't really true for senior positions either, a lot of people get put on gardening leave and are immediately sent home the day they hand in their notice.

I'm not going back through the thread to see if this has already been discussed, but I would have thought it was far more likely the Colts knew Luck was retiring but were asking him to delay the announcement so they could get more season tickets sold.

I have no problem that he decided to retire but doing it two-weeks before the start of the season is pretty selfish. Why not give it one last shot for your teammates and fans since they all expect you out there and for you to be the leader of rbe team? Colts invested a lot of time and money into Luck. Tne least he could do is not abrutly retire right before the start of the season.

That's not your decision.

It's just an example of how money has corrupted the game.

I don’t think Andy intentionally meant any disrespect or harm. He was just genuinely wrestling with a huge personal decision. I mean, think about it-walking meant leaving hundreds of millions of dollars on the table. Yet staying and going through the motions would have been even worse.

I think he made the right decision for himself, which is all any of us can do.

I wish him the best of luck. He’ll be successful at whatever he decides to do.

I hope the Colts bring him back someday so the fans can give him the send off he deserves. Maybe when he goes in the ring of honor.

He clearly played injured in 2016, underperformed his own expectations, and vowed never to do so again. As this season approached and he was dealing with a similar litany of injuries that weren’t improving, he made a decision. Could he have gone on IR for half the season or been out for the entire season and gotten paid handsomely to do so? Absolutely. You can argue that would be the more detrimental thing for the organization and its fans. I’m sure if he could do it all over again with perfect foresight he would’ve retired many months ago, but he didn’t know then that he was going into the 2019 season injured and not able to play to his expectations.

There’s no reason not to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, just as you (and I) regularly did with Eric Berry. I don’t regret that either.

I care mostly because of how spoiled that fan base is. You would think the way the Colts fans acted that Andrew luck left the team on a national televised special where he declared he'd rather be in Miami. The fans had Peyton, then found a franchise qb immediately after. Now they may end up with another franchise qb in the next draft. Boo hoo, Colts fans... You have to endure one year of bad qb play. Boo hoo, you haven't won a super bowl in about a decade.
