Getting through Hydrocodone Addiction

Not Chiefs related but I’m going through hell. I was literally prescribed this crap for 10 years and then I moved out of state. I knew moving no other family doctor would prescribe them to me unless my back was jelly. I think I’m doing pretty good considering that it’s been about eight days with nothing after 10 years and having it every day. Anyone else gone through this?

I hope you're right.

When I tried to get help, I was looked at like I was the scum of the earth. I'll never forget those two conversations I had with two separate doctors.

They treated me like I was dirt when all I wanted was help.

Yes I'm jaded by that experience. **** both of them.

Doctors were told the medication was not addictive, and they were marketed as non-addictive. Granted, the addictive properties have now been known for a long time

Physicians definitely have been part of the issue, as the majority of people who become addicted start with a legitimate prescription.

We now know that an initial supply greater than 5 days is a strong predictor for being on the medication long term

My neighbor is a pharmacist. He said they, pharmacists, know more about the drugs than the doctors. Doctors get marketed to by Big Pharma and their reps.

Couldn't get addicted to them if i tried. Yet I'm addicted to energy drinks. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
My daughter was prescribed them at age 19 after getting her wisdom teeth pulled. I told her no way. Gave her Excedrin which worked just fine. No need to use opiates after wisdom teeth extraction. Have no idea why it was prescribed.

Like others said, hang in there. I can't imagine what it's like since I've never needed any drug for that long.

It's always great hearing of one more person kicking a drug habit. It's no way to live.

This stupid new war on opioids is bullshit. Patients with nerve damage don't have any choice but talking opioids. Nobody has invented anything that helps repair nerves at all. Once the Myelin Sheath is damage you will have nerve problems forever. It sucks.

Dozens of different nerve disorders for people with no answer at all. MS, Fibromyalgia, SCI, Diabetic neuropathy, Bell's palsy, Spina Bifida etc. The list is so long that you can't imagine that someone hasn't found anything yet.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Good luck to you.

Clearly they know more about drugs. However, opiate drug reps are no longer going around pushing products. And they days of kickbacks are long gone.

I understand your point, the problem is that opiates are not very effective for neuropathic pain. Neither is anything else.

Holy hell what a bad opinion honey trap this thing has been.

To the OP, look into and see if your work or insurance provider has a program to help you with kicking the habit. They are incredibly hard to quit, so don't be afraid to seek out help and don't worry about any possible stigma from doing it.

It's not your fault that we've a sick care policy in the US and not a Healthcare policy. Don't listen to that butt****ing moron from a few pages ago.

Completely agree, it's just that nothing works even a little bit other than opioids. Non-opioid medication does nothing for nerve-related pain. They give out baclofen and other muscle spasm stuff to help but that doesn't do anything about the nerve.

Gabapentin, Lyrica, and Opioids are the key options.
