RAPOPORT: Steve Spagnuolo, Dennis Allen, John Pagano names to watch at DC

Just heard on NFL Total Access.... FWIW. https://twitter.com/rapsheet/status/...864004097?s=21

Allen, the Saints DC, is a free agent for those who may read that and wonder.

Well, I think it's equally as problematic as staying in a 3-4.

We have a lot of money we'd have to tie up in Houston's deal and what to do with Ford.

I'm not sure both will be back next year in any scenario. If we stay 3-4, I'd put even money that we keep ONE and cut the other.

So I guess some of the questions are-

Did Kpass not play because he could not drop and cover receivers at all? Because if that's why, no problem as a 4-3 DE.

Wouldn't Speaks be better suited as a 4-3 DE? I think so. He's too slow to play LB. Dropping weight wouldn't necessarily mean he'll be fast enough. Playing at 275 and just getting stronger would make him a stud 4-3 DE though.

Would a switch to a 4-3 mean Hitchens reverts to his old self?

Would a 4-3 alignment mean O'Daniel could play 3 downs as your sideline to slideline speed and cover-backer? I kinda think so.

Could you replace Houston's 3-4 OLB with an equal(ish) player at 4-3 DE with his cap savings? I would think so.

What do you get for a tag and trade with Ford?

Either way, there's work to do personnel wise. I'm not sure it's more one way than the other when you take the cap money into account.

If speaks develops then I’m ok with 4-3, but I honestly don’t see what the Chiefs saw in him.
You're not wrong about LB'ers, but it is a slightly different skillset. You can get by with lighter, faster LB'ers in a 4-3.

Also, you have two solid starters at DT in Jones and Nnadi. Plus Williams as a rotational DT.

I think due to cap #'s it's unlikely we retain all 3 pro bowlers regardless. Either Houston or Ford will likely be gone.

If Andy makes an internal hire, we should fire him on pure principle.

That would be a disaster.

My whole issue is if you look at our defense....

We are 3 pieces from being possible dominant talent wise.

OLB - Check
DE - Check
DT - I miss poe but passable
MLB - concern
CB - I like ward ALOT, Fuller is good too. Could use another
SS - concern (with Berry our)
FS - Concern till I see more from Armani Watt

We didn’t lose to Tom Brady because we didn’t have the talent on defense. We lost because Bob played two-Man all ****ing game long....

I'm cool with Dennis Allen - surprisingly not seeing him getting many endorsements in this thread.
