I think the DC Universe would have been in great hands with Nolan.

BTW, have you seen the IMAX trailer for Dunkirk? I saw it before Rogue One. Holy ****ing shit! It was absolutely insane. I've never seen or heard anything like it on a movie screen (or in real life). |

I haven't seen the IMAX trailer, no. I did create a thread for it here though. I'll be watching that movie for sure. |

I assume that they chose to take the DCU into dark and gritty territory because they didn't want to be accused of copying Marvel's success with their franchises on the big screen. But man, it just isn't playing out well for them, in spite of the success Nolan had with his version of Batman.
Pestilence is right, if they wanted to keep on that path, they should have docked a cargo ship full of money at Nolan's beachside home and gave him free reign to shape the DCU. |

I love what he did in Argo but I have difficulty buying him as Batman. |

Agreed though, he should never have been cast to begin with unless it is the plan to kill him off and have him hand off the cowl to Damian Wayne and just get away from the Bruce storyline for a bit. |

They are using Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns archetype for Affleck's Batman interpretation.

I can only assume the answer is yes, because the Justice League is well into productions and almost ready for post.
That said, I think the true loss is Affleck the director, who's been very good for the better part of this decade. I liked him as Batman, especially against Cavill's passive Supes, but I think the DCU is better served with him as a director as opposed to an actor. But that bridge has already been crossed and it's too late for an entire DCU reboot (which should have happened after MoS). |
