Push button start cars and cold weather
I am going to ramble through this.
It is going to be cold. ****ing Cold. New cars have a push button start-will they always start??? How to you "crank them" if they do not right away. Fewer cars have heat plugs today. Was told they are not really needed. Just want my wifes car to be ok since she has to work tomorrow. My truck still has a key and remote start.. I have to go in even though school was closed. |

Only problem I had was when the key itself got cold too.

Somehow today's cars know when to stop cranking. My 2011 Dakota has the conventional key switch, but all you have to do is click it to the start position for a second and it will crank on its own and stop once the engine starts running. Sometimes it does seem like it stays engaged a second or two too long and makes a unsettling grinding sound, which I'm sure is slowly destroying my starter. Built Ram tough and shit y'know.

My wife's car never fails to start using the button. Shit, might have just jinxed myself the next few days are going to be brutal by mid-mo standards.

Modern fuel injection and the super thin and efficient oils used in cars these days makes this point pretty much moot.
Back in the day with carburetors and what not it was a thing, not so much now. In extremely cold environments, block heaters are used, but I seriously don't think you are going to have a problem. |

It's electricity man. Worry about your battery.
Push button start most likely has remote start as well. |
