My younger sister has cancer
I've never asked for anything from anyone on CP in my nearly 10 years here.

Today all I ask is that you say a small prayer and well wishes for my younger sister who had a Melanoma removed from her leg last week with a skin graft and today they found some more evidence in one of her lymph nodes so she heads back in for a CT scan next week. So far it looks like they have it early and I hope that's all.

She is a wonderful human being, unlike myself, a school teacher for over 30 years, loved by everyone who knows her and a real strong person. I'm heartbroken to hear my kid sister has the "c" word and really just shook me up.

Thanks in advance for anyone who offers a simple kind word.

That's good news, scho63. You may be aware of these statistics, but for the benefit of everyone else, here are the 5 year survival rates for melanoma according to cancer.net:

Primary site only = 99%
Involvement of nearby lymph nodes = 67%
Spread to other parts of the body = 20%

67% is a lot better than 20%, but for those who believe in the power of prayer or positive thoughts, she can use continued support.

Additional reasons for optimism from cancer.net:

The estimate comes from annual data based on the number of people with this cancer in the United States. My sister's surgery to remove some lymph nodes in her groin area went well yesterday and it appears that the skin cancer on her leg and in her lymph are completely removed.

Hopefully this will be it and never return.

If she had spread to other organs, she's Stage IV regardless. You can move up in staging, but not down. Any response is good, though.
