Playoff wins as the measure of a QB
One of the best all-encompassing measures of a QB's greatness might be playoff wins. If you look at this stat against most lists of the greatest QBs of all time, (at least those of the Super Bowl era) it lines up pretty closely.
Only 11 QBs in history have more playoff wins than Patrick Mahomes, who already has 11 at age 27. The list with more than Mahomes: Brady - 35 Montana - 16 Manning, Young, Elway, Bradshaw - 14 Roethlisberger, Favre, Staubach - 13 Rodgers - 12
It already looks like a good bet that Mahomes will finish #2 all time in that measure. Everyone beyond 10 wins is a Hall of Famer or will be. Last edited by Eleazar; 02-13-2023 at 12:31 PM.. |

It's nice that he's moving up the list, but I really dislike the QB Wins stuff. KC has had
2 amazing team wins the last couple weeks featuring big time contributions from a bunch of guys across the roster. The same thing could be said for a million other games in the past featuring the all-time big name QB's. |

I didn't say it could be said about a million QB's. I said it applies to a million games in general. This is the ultimate team sport. It takes a lot of solid players around the QB to win any game. You could be one of the best QB's ever and still lose a ton of games if your defense is terrible. Dan Marino seems to fit into that category when it comes to playoff success.

Mahomes would NEVER go out 62-7. Look at some of these stinkers. https://www.pro-football-reference.c.../gamelog/post/ 77 career QB rating in the playoffs. 17-43?

Starr, Warner, Kelly - 9 Marino - 8 Griese, Stabler - 7 Tarkenton - 6 Dawson - 5 Fouts - 3 Moon - 3 Namath - 2 That's a list of good QBs, but I don't think anyone on this list should be mentioned in the same category of greatness as anyone on the list in the OP. |

Patrick Mahomes has never not played in the AFCCG while being the starter.

I will begrudgingly say that Brady at 35 wins is just crazy.
That said, Patrick is tearing it up and I'm so amazed that I get to enjoy watching this. |

It's amazing to think that more than 10 playoff wins basically makes you a hall of fame QB, and Brady won his first 10 playoff games in a row. He won 3 super bowls before he ever lost a playoff game.

Ton of help from the defense, especially those first two years when his passer rating was 77/158 and 84/158 for 6 games combined in two playoff runs. Got extremely lucky on that fumble in the snow against the Raiders as well, lol
