It's an unknown to anyone but Berry, the Chiefs and his doctor. If they have to cut the Achilles to get to the issue, it's the longer recovery time. If they can shave the bone without removing the Achilles, it's a shorter recovery. My GUESS is that due to the way they've handled it, I suspect it's the kind where they have to get the Achilles out of the way before dealing with the issue - thus, the long recovery.

i thought the fact hes having surgery makes him uncutabble now, whereas if he didn't, he wouldn't be?

He's a 14.95mm cap hit if we cut him after this season. We'd save 1.55mm.

Which is interesting because like Berry, John Wall also tried to play through his Haglunds and could have had surgery last year and did not.

Wall's contract is fully guaranteed too. He's going to make 40 million a year in like 2020

Nope, he'll use the surgery to force the Chiefs to pay him another full year.

Justin Houston did almost the exact same thing in 2015. He got hurt and missed the last 5 games of the regular season. He played in 2 playoff games before waiting for a little over a month after our last game before having knee surgery. He started the next season on IR locking his full salary in for the season.

If Berry waits he will force full salary payment or an injury settlement. After the way his last contract negotiations went, Berry isn't letting the Chiefs off the hook for a single penny. The Chiefs might as well just keep him for another season and hope he can play some.

Foot injuries are so difficult for football players.

If Berry had surgery during the summer he wasn't going to play this year. If he gets the surgery in February, there's a chance he can play next year.

Would you rather have the possibility of Berry for a stretch run this year and all of next year, or no Berry at all this year?

This isn't like Shaq saying, "I got hurt on company time so I'll recover on company time."

If he plays today and in the Super Bowl all is forgiven. You can only have so many cortisone shots you can get a year. Usually it's limited to 3-4 times a year.

Let's go Berry - go get 'em. But I'd like to see you on the field at the end of the game.
