Woodworking

I don't recall seeing anything on here about the hobby. Do you do it? Have any interest? Tools? Have you made anything? Do you want to learn?

With the recent developments on the Planet, it got me thinking, what can I do to contribute and support the new effort?

I had no problem with any of the old guard and want to support the effort to make Chiefs Planet great again with the regime.

They aren't teaching vocational training in high school anymore, but maybe we can provide a venue here to learn woodworking?

There is a handyman mega thread, but this deserves it's own thread if we are going to accomplish something.

When I went to Junior high school we had woodworking class and I have always loved it. Finally, upon retirement, I have been able to set up a nice woodwork shop. I can go from station to station and perform the particular task, planing, jointer, sander, router table, radial arm, table and band saw.

I am currently on my fifth cedar chest this winter. Each one has gotten much easier as I have learned.

We have a cedar mill about ten miles away so it has been very instrumental in the effort as raw material is the main ingredient. It is dirt cheap at the mill and I have been buying 1.1 inch thick by 52 long by 4.25 wide boards and gluing them together.

What are you working on?

I am not sure what you mean by crook necks but will google it.

I built a cedar chest for one of my sister's friends that asked me to build her one and then drove three hundred miles to deliver it to her after putting almost 60 hours in it. We had agreed on a price and she shit backwards when I got there, so I decided not to sell any woodworking going forward.

Just going to stick to building stuff for family now, got enough siblings, grandkids, neices and nephews on my list to keep me busy. Thanks though!

Here is a bookshelf out of white oak I built for my eldest daughter and a toybox for youngest grandson.

Crook neck is the traditional hook-style of cane. But if you're not willing to sell, the it's moot.

I don't do any woodworking really anymore... Maybe someday I'll dabble in my own shop, but after doing production-based for a while you don't really feel like "dabbling."

Canes are easy as shit to make though if you really want to DIY. Process is simple. Make a jig of some sort to bend a piece of wood around... Ez way is to take and cut the bottom end off of a small coffee can (about 2") and screw it down securely to a piece of wood. space pieces of wood about 1" away from that on both sides and screw it down to make your bending jig... then u just have to steam the wood.... ez home way is make a box that you can pipe steam in for an hour straight, ez way is with a teapot and a hose... I've attached a rough sketch...

Edit: This is assuming you have cut the sapling, peeled it, and allowed it to air dry.
